I'm a casual fan at best of Major League Soccer, but I've heard that the players plan to strike.

It sounds very strange to me, as this is still an upstart league that isn't insanely popular compared to other sports leagues in the U.S.

Anyone have any info or insight?

Here. (http://www.3rddegree.net/2010/03/12/120-fahrenheit-why-i-think-a-strike-by-mls-players-wont-be-effective/)

This is a terrible idea, especially with it being a World Cup year, the league being new, but getting better, it's a labor strike to begin with, etc.

Yeah - it's just that I was surprised to even hear they were considering this. I know the David Beckhams of the league can play anywhere in the world, but watching MLS, it's quite apparent that most of these guys aren't very good. I remember watching the U.S. World Cup team get embarrassed in 06 (NP asked me to marry him around that time, so it wasn't all bad) and thinking "Wow, our guys just can't compete."

I have heard speculation that most of the MLS players would have to be office boys (or girls) like the rest of us if they weren't "professional athletes" in MLS. Time to come to your senses, guys.

I hear they're holding out until they get 2 juice boxes after each game.

This is as bad an idea as the league expanding to 20 teams by 2012.

I enjoy the MLS, without illusions about its quality in the context of world football. (Not that it's so "bad"; it's just not the top.) I don't think there wil be a strike, and I hope not. It would only make the league and the players look silly. There would be plenty of "scab" players in any event.
