They get my vote. They bring back their entire team minus one starter which will no doubt have them starting in the top 5 pre-season at the least (I've seen one poll that had them #3 behind Bama & tOSU, FWIW). They then get 2 good early shots to make impressions on the voters with games vs. Va. Tech in D.C., & a home game w/ Oregon State. Throw in the fact that it's ridiculously hard to run the table in a BCS conference these days & I can easily see them moving up solely due to others losing while they coast through the WAC for the rest of the year.

UW or Rutgers would be my serious dark horses.

Tom Savage will have a breakout year. I think he has tons of potential.

Boise will certainly be the popular choice - their stars seem to be lining up for the coming season. They did out play TCU in the battle of the non-BCS giants. I could see them getting to the title game, but I'm just not a believer that they could win against a deep BCS team. But anything can happen in a 1 game playoff.

From that group I would eliminate LSU, Florida and Texas outright. USC caught a huge break with the Oregon meltdown. I think tOSU will be the class of the Big 10. I am not sold on Bama returning to the championship game but right now don't see another SEC team edging them out for their conference title so . . .

If all three of those were undefeated at the end of the season it will come down to style points. Bama would get an edge for being SEC. That would then put the fate of USC/tOSU in the hands of their competition. It happens (see sa*et two years ago).

I say Georgia.

Not because I think there's a big chance there, but because, historically speaking, Richt has fielded some very nice teams. He's also done quite well recruiting-wise, so he's got talent.

I don't see it as entirely impossible to imagine them surprising folks and winning the SEC, which these days practically guarantees you a shot at the national title.

Mind you, I'm not saying this is likely. Not even close. But of the teams not listed, I say Georgia has one of the highest non-zero chances to show up in the title game.
