There's a few of my fellow ossifers in the squadron (more inexperienced LT's like me) who are planning on switching their residency to OK in May because they claim that the state will no longer be taxing military income from active duty folks. Is this true, or should I stop them from being dumb? Doesn't affect me, cause I kept my home of record and residency with my parents in Texas to avoid all this craziness.

All I know is, even states that have state income tax, like Oklahoma, and which give their military people serving outside the state a pass on payment of state income tax, which Oklahoma does not, generally assess the state income tax on GI's when they are actually assigned to, and serving within, the state that is their home of record/official residency.

I remained an Okie my military entire career because it was important to me to give a little back to my peeps. I ran Okie plates most of the time too.

Oh, I have Okie plates and DL, but I've kept my voter registration down in TX. All Okie ever cares about (and the feds for that matter) is where you filled out your home of record when you signed up...and for me, that was TX.

They do indeed, even when said GI is serving outside the state.

One day, it is my hope, that Okie will cease state income tax entirely so we can attract some of those companies that bailed for Houston and DFW back to home.

The way I see it, to be economically competitive with a our sister state below the Red River, we need to dump state income tax and cut way back on corporate income and payroll taxes.
