Bought a scooter today. I no longer own a car -- just a scooter.

I went with this model from Genuine Scooter Company: The Rattler
http://www.genuinescooters.com/scooters/rattler/rattler.html

http://www.genuinescooters.com/images/scooterpages/redRattler.jpg

I'll get a pic of myself with it tomorrow. It's pretty f'in awesome. I rode it around the neighborhood a bit and it's going to take some getting used to, but man was it fun.

It has a 110cc/2stroke engine. WTF that means.

It's built capable of doing some off-roading which is cool.

Sweet ride.

But dude, I gotta tell you that you were at Baylor far too long to be healthy for ya. When I went to school there, I would fall over laughing at the pretty co-eds going to classes all made up pretty and nice in dresses and crossing their legs while riding their little scooters. I hope you are not crossing your legs while riding your bike. I mean 1) it isn't safe for you and 2) it wouldn't be safe for anyone else either driving or walking around the streets of Vicksburg.

That's it. I like hearing that. At red lights, stand up and adjust your package. Fart when you have to. Revel in the rain even if you are wearing a rain suit, as long as it isn't orange color.

The obligatory: "Know how I know you're gay?"

Just a tiny piece of advice:

Get a car or truck as a back-up. I've always had motorcycles (never one of these little POS though). When I got divorced, I decided to sell my truck and just ride the Harley. It was great for a while, then every time I needed anything - from groceries to beer to lumber - I had to borrow someone's vehicle. Also, riding in the rain/snow/sleet/etc. ain't no fun.

One other thing, and I'm deadly serious here - 110cc is plenty enough power to get your *** into a serious bind, and nowhere near enough power to get out of it. If you've gotta own one of those little homomobiles, get at least a 175-250cc. More people get killed on those scooters because they can't accelerate out of a tight spot, and because of the small wheels/tires, they're very unstable when emergency braking.

In Bermuda last summer my brother face-planted on one when a truck pulled out in front of him and he had to slam on the brakes. Him and his kid were all road-rashed to hell.

http://kitsunenoir.com/blogimages/woodgrain-ruckus.jpg

I did like the Ruckus, but what stopped me from buying it was the lack of under-seat storage space.

My first choice was actually the Honda Elite since it had a LOT more storage space than a typical scooter, but I ended up going with the Rattler for a number of reasons (I almost went with the OD Green Stella).

Anyway, I got a pretty good deal on the Scooter. They were asking for 3k, and I managed to get them under that while throwing in a helmet, goggles, and a complete sports package that includes a windshield, rear rack, and a hard top luggage case. I have to take it back in a week for them to install the sports package, but I got all of that thrown in so I'm satisfied.

i think if you go the scooter route, you accept it for what it is. trying to find a "manlier" one is sort of like a combover haircut or something. it's already happened, better deal with it straight on and accept the euro-bohemian bourgie styling.

I tell visitors to Bermuda not to rent one, although you have to take cabs around if you don't. The Bermuda airport in the summer is full of road rash tourists.

I owned a scooter in Bermuda for 10 years--you have to as only 1 car per household and the wives get the cars. They can be a lot of fun, but Dean is right, 110 cc isn't much power. It is fine for the 22 mph speed limit in Bermuda, but in the real world, not so much.

It just seems like a whole lot easier and a hell of a lot more fun to run around town with. Plus, I can just drive around and explore without worrying about burning up a ton of gas. I can go 170 miles on this thing on just 2 gallons of gas. That's less than 5 bucks (at the moment).

Plus, like I said, it's just a hell of a lot of fun.

I know many who love them but I just can't do a step-through.....even my wife who doesn't like shifting doesn't like scooters, they just feel weird to her. If she could find an Aprilia Mana (http://www.apriliausa.com/en-US/Model/20533/MANA+850/Overview.aspx) with the CVT transmission like in the parent company Piaggio (http://www.piaggiousa.com/) scooters with the same height as the Moto Guzzi Breva 750 then I know she would prefer that one.
