I'm pretty young, but wasn't 1973 Oklahoma pretty dang good?

I would throw '78 in there, too.

Not sure I'd put Florida as the # 3 team for the 80's. Surely, there's someone better than a 9-1-1 team.

OU won the title in 1950. We were pretty good in '53 too.

that 9-1-1 team was #1 for much of the season and had won the SEC Title before the NCAA stepped in, caught them for violations and forced UF to vacate its SEC Title and national title hopes.

I didn't put 50 in there because they lost a game. Yes they lost a reward game for being undefeated in the regular season but when you look at it as a whole....consider 2 other teams.

Kentucky finished 10-1 with its only loss coming to Tennessee and defeated OU in that Sugar Bowl.

Tennessee finished 10-1 with its only loss coming to Ole Miss.

Hard to decipher who was the best for the 50 season. Obviously it's Oklahoma if you want to go on regular season record (10-0) but I went ahead and took the whole season in account.

I'd think long and hard about some of our 1980's teams.

I really couldn't think of a team in the 80s that stood out. 1985 we lost to Miami. But we did beat an electrifying PSU for the title.

That same Miami team got annihilated by a Tennessee team that finished (9-1-2), 7-35 in the Sugar Bowl.

80s was hard to come up with.

i'd pick AR in 64, & not 69.

i'd pick OU, (didn't win title) in 54 as one of the 5 teams of the 50s.

I would put our '87 team over the Florida team. Remember, we played for the national title without Holieway.

Couldn't be that much of the season...they were 1-1-1 when Pell got fired and Galen took over. They won eight in a row after that with Kerwin Bell as a freshman QB. But I doubt many polls had them #1 at 2-1-1 or even 3-3-1. I'm guessing probably not until they had six or seven of their nine wins were they number one in any serious poll.

Either or, I can understand about finding dominant teams in the 80's. When was FSU on their roll? Did they have any great teams back then?

I still think 2000 OU beats 2005 UT. And they would absolutely beat 09 Bama. They were completely one dimensional. 2000 defense would have eaten bama alive. Granted it would have been a low scoring game, but I say OU shuts bama out and puts up at least 10.

OU was good every year in the 50s. From 1948-1958 8 total losses.

The 1955 Sooner football team was so good that they led the league in total offense, rushing offense, and points scored, while the defense posted five shutouts and had four other games where they allowed six points or less.

From the page for February 23 on my Year 2010 Team Calender . . .

Here's a pretty sick stat. 22 of the 47 games during that great winning streak were shut outs.

Any long streaks of shutouts? (I think Michigan holds the record.)

For OU it's 5 games in 1938
