The state is desperate for cash. On my way to San Diego, the number of cars pulled over for tickets was insane.

You have been warned.

wouldn't p*ss on that state if it were on fire

SoCal is like living at a bus stop...only everyone there claims they own the bus stop. Integrity is like plutonium.

Posting on a Sooner Board about California Traffic Control doesn't seem to be a high priority for my fat redneck *** either.

Algebraically it would seem that: X = Leroid

Cleveland County must be short on cash, too. There were 2 deputies along I-35 between Norman and Moore this morning. I guess they're tired of watching the Norman PD and the Highway Patrol rake in all the $$$ from the construction zone.

Get back to me when you've lived there for a few years. You'd probably love it, actually.

Lived there for a year.....couldn't wait to get back to OK.

Different attitude out there....at least the down times have shut most of em up......or at least the ones that I enjoyed watching fail miserably and have a million dollar pos condo that is now worth about $5......heh.....but I digress.....:D

Under this year's line of designer sunglasses people are largely the same all over. Every time I go to California (San Diego, usually, for conventions and stuff) I think the people look basically like the Oklahomans and Nebraskans I know; they're just trying a lot harder and spending a lot more money to appear "beautiful."

They probably wouldn't write you a ticket, SJS. In California, they would just give you a warning as long as your accent sounded realistically South of the Border.

We just got back from Disneyland a couple of weeks ago. Everyong drives 80 on the highways and we never saw a cop the whole time we were there.

You wanna talk about someone taking your money? Breakfast at Burger King at LAX for my 2 kids my wife and myself = $38!

Well I've spent on average 3-4 weeks a year in Long Beach for the last 11 years. I've found that it has good people and bad people. Some hippies, some rich folk, some *********s and some really nice, down to earth people. Just like everywhere else I've ever lived and travelled to. Enjoy your worn out stereotypes.

a few weeks in South Compton....ok.

I've lived on the east coast, Dallas, OK, and SoCal. I have no broad negative stereotypes concerning the other 3.

When you come up with a place that you visited to prove your vast knowledge of SoCal, you might want pick better area than the equivalent of South Oak Cliff in Dallas. Once again, get back to me when you've actually lived there for a few years. Short of that, your opinion means jack to me or anyone else for that matter.

I'm sure you're much more sophisticated, worldly, educated and better looking than I am. That being said, I'm fairly certain my years of travel across this country have exposed me to enough environments that I can come to a relatively certain conclusion that there are lots of good people in Southern California.

Maybe in Long Beach.

Anyone who has lived there, I'd be interested in their perspective. You, not so much. Before I lived there, I visited SoCal several times and loved it. Moved there, hated it after just a few months. Maybe you could give me some pointers on living here in Edmond. I've been here 20 years, but I'm sure you visited a few weeks here and there.

We're moving to San Diego next year, I think I'm gonna miss Jax. It gets a bad rap, but I've really loved it here. Oh well, it's the navy, if we don't like it at least we won't be there very long.

Living there awhile with the service would probably be a good time. When last I went by the new base the living quarters looked pretty good.

As you can see above my Avvie, I claim all the good characteristics of a Californian and partly live in Oklahoma now because of all the bad ones I refused to develop...

Having said that, I'm retired Navy and in my opinion, San Diego (proper, not the suburbs) should be considered in a different class that what is normally considered to be "Southern California". I love San Diego and loathe LA, the Valley, etc.

I've lived in the north end of the San Joaquin Valley for 25 years and I love it. I've seen transplants come and go over the years and their attitudes tend to be tied to their jobs. If they love their job, they love living here. if they hate their jobs, they can't wait to go back home and bitch about california.

I miss Norman, but nothing else in Oklahoma other than a sprinkle of relatives in Edmond. I don't miss the winter wind-chill that cuts to the bone or the summer nights that don't cool down. Edmond really needs an upscale grocery store and a few decent taquerias.

Back in the summer of '97, me and the old man drove from Osage County to Oakland. We stayed in Gallup and Bakersfield on the way up.
Dad's 100 year old aunt had died in San Jose and we came up to collect his share of things. We stayed a few nights with his cousin in Oakland.
They had moved out there during the mass okie exodus back in the rough old days. Their lovely home used to be in a nice hilly neighborhood in Oakland. Now it's in thugville.
We cut across the mountains out of San Jose. Beautiful drive.
Stayed in Barstow on the way back (craphole).

I gotta say the worst of it was the eastern part of Cali on I-40. Sheesh.

That and Dad cutting off some gang bangers in Oakland.:( :D

Oh yeah, the SJ Valley was wonderful.

The thing that makes me laugh about this California hate is the fact that there are thousands upon thousands of Oklahoma natives and there kids and grandkids living there. Hell, I've got a bunch of relatives there myself, though I don't really know any of them.

Pretty much what everyone else said. In the SoCal area, you really need to be making a kerjillion dollars to be able to afford to live an an area where the quality of life is equivilent to what most enjoy in OK. That said, money cant buy that kind of weather \ geography - that part is astounding. Of course, that gets balanced out by the 25 or so million people, and their cars...

Funny.

My daughters fly out here from CA to visit and we go to a Messican place and they are completely baffled by the little bowl of liquid cheese that comes with the chips.

Now that I think about it, I can come up with one thing to bitch about Californians about...not all of them, just the ones that move to Nevada.

They are completely and totally dooshing this place up. Vegas is supposed to be an anything goes kinda place, but some of the California-type attitudes and laws those particular californians are trying to instill here are annoying. It's not the less extreme Hollywood liberal types and not the moderate California Republicans either. It's the full on Nazis and Socialists on the fringe of each political philosophy. Those people with their combination of anti-smoking, anti porn, anti alcohol, and all around anti FUN don't belong in a place like Vegas and I wish they'd quit flocking here in droves. If you don't like smoke and you don't like gambling and you don't like tits, get the hell out of Vegas. There are plenty of other places to live where they could have their own little Utopia without having to change the entire personality of the city. Why the F would someone who doesn't like all these things and the entire culture of Vegas want to live here anyway?????

True, but they are still dooshing up Vegas. If they want the lower taxes and the business friendly attitude they need to STFU about the debauchery that makes it possible for the state to have such tax benefits.

When we went to UCLA back in 2005 as part of a student group, our bus was trying to get to the stadium, but it was dumb blond beyonce after dumb blond beyonce walking in front of the bus without regard for the fact that they might get run over. It was like a walking, b!tchy stereotype fest at the Rose Bowl. Bleach blond hair, b!tchy stare.

Anyway, our bus driver is getting frustrated that the park officials aren't helping traffic move along and starts beeping the horn... to no avail. B!tches just keep on walking in front of us and the bus can't move without getting a b!tchy stare back like "daddy gonna sue you if you touch one inch of me." or something.

I don't remember how we got out of that mess, but I hope OU never schedules another home-and-home with them ever again.

Oh... what was the topic? California driving? Pbbbth. At least they have commuter lanes.
