THis was happening a few weeks ago. We actually have some threads on here about it. Here's one thread we had going on about it....plus there was at least one other thread in the SO.

The ChiComs are probably trying to hack in and steal our secrets...Plus they don't like the conservative discussions on this board as it will undermine their attempt to overtake our country with Obama's and the progressives efforts to derail Capitalism...;)

Considering this forum software has not been updated in a long time...I would not be at all surprised if it were insecure here.

Phil, update vBulletin. ;)

Whomever told you that is a bull****ter.

They get viruses...just not as numerous as the most popular OS (windows).

This is correct. It's not that they're SUPER SECURE, it's just that, if you think about it, if you were creating a virus, which would you choose to build code for:

1) (Win) Most of the market, with common knowledge of its intricate workings, or

2) (Mac) A Small piece of the market, and a harder code to tap into

while unix is, by its nature, more secure than the windows platform, if hackers really wanted to, there would be just as many mac viruses.

And don't think I'm a Mac hater, I'm writing this from my Macbook Pro.

This is a very untrue statement, considering that 90% of the world uses some form of windows and only 6% use any form of Mac its uncommon for hackers to want information off of Macs so Apple had no built in OSFW. And since most Mac owners think their Mac won't get a virus they have no virus protection with in turn means no anti-theft protection and heavily contributes to that statistic that if you have a Mac that your credit card is 3 times more likely to be stolen than someone with a PC with virus protection.

That's why I'm getting rid of my Mac, it also freezes up to much! I would advise you take that computer for a refund and then you can buy 2 PCs.

Wow, seems I have touched a nerve with some. Ok, sorry. Macs get FEWER viruses than PC's.

Nothing a Z pack wont cure.

For most people. The last time I got a sinus infection they ended up backing it up with 10 days of amoxicillin too. It's scary to think that a Z pack used to knock it out no problem. I hope the Drug Companies continue to develop products that keep up with these new agressive flu that comes our way.

gaylordfan1
2/20/2010, 12:28 PM
Tamiflu is really the only thing that can help with the flu bc the flu is a virus. Now predicting the flu stain and manufacturing a flu shot that is affective against building antibodies is what is so hard for these scientists/drug companies. This all has to be done before the flu hits the USA, so about a year in advance.

StoopTroup
2/20/2010, 12:31 PM
My understanding is that they tend not to give you Tamaflu unless they have tried everything else. Also wasn't Cipro one of the ones on the ''Oh **** He's Gonna Die!'' list?

technically true, although mac recommend using AV

however, techincally, the warning on the site was for a trojan, which is not a virus but a different type of malware and which macs can become infected with

gaylordfan1
2/20/2010, 12:44 PM
They prescribe Tamiflu for the flu only if you present with flu-like symptoms within 24 hours of its onset. They say it has some pretty bad side effects and some opt not to take it for that simple fact, although I haven't seen them personally. And Cipro is a very common antibiotic used everyday for many bacterial infections. You might be thinking of the anthrax scare... Its the drug everyone was stockpiling.

 I retracted my statement... FEWER... much fewer viruses. All I know is with my PC I was getting all kinds of malware/trojans detected on avg and my other antiviruses. I was very diligent on keeping everything up to date and ran scans regularly. The viruses on this site a couple of weeks ago slammed my computer... even put a google redirect virus that was a bi*ch to get rid of. I use my computer for finances and web browsing mostly. My computer was also 10 years old so I decided to upgrade. I have heard nothing but great things about mac and their products. My iphone is about as user friendly as you can get. The imac is the same. I'm not trying to praise mac's or anything, it was just a good fit for me.

I'm not getting any actual problems, just a little warning box that pops up when it loads the main page initially.

It could just as easily be flash based I guess via a potential hole with the arcade stuff.

I don't ever go into the arcade, and Flash has known software exploits, the sooner the internet is rid of that the better off it will be.

probably, most people don't update the software that comes with their store purchased computers, and definitely don't renew when the 1 year license is up.

I now use BitDefender total security (paid version)...It is fully updated (as of yesterday) and checks for updates every day.

I used to use AVG free and that is when I got that message a few weeks ago.

Different AV progs have different definitions for their programs. Some are slower at getting current threats than others.
BitDefender is rated as one of the best AV software out today...and nothing has came across as dangerous on this site.

I haven't had a virus or trojan in a couple of years, thankfully. And I run IE on a pc running Vista and use pdf files and flash regularly and download illegal games, music, apps, and porn on an almost constant basis.. Apparently I'm a lucky SOB.*

That or my AV is working perfectly in conjunction with being sensible about my illegal and immoral activities.
