7- I've got to give a very slight advantage to a healthy Everage here. Splitting hairs on that on though. If he stays healthy, & has a good year, I'd move both of them aside in favor of DeMarco.

12- Gundy

20- I have to at least mention Calmus here. 1 & 1A, take your pick, can't go wrong w/ either.

21- I'm going to go wash my hands after this, but Darrell Royal.

45- Joe Bowden. Loved Lydell, but he was never even named all conference. Bowden was an All-American in '91.

54- Jimbo Elrod deserves a co-mention.

78- Scott Evans, 3 time all conference, & IMO, one of the most under-rated OU defenders ever due to the time he played.

80- I'm taking Rick Bryan or Dan Cody over Alexander, especially Bryan.

94- Dusty Dvoracek

Nicely done.

Only ommission I saw was Heupel. I think he was #14. I would put him next to Sammie.

I thought about this one it was a hard decisions to make between the two but it's a coin flip. I wouldn't argue too much if you put Josh there. Sam has a better arm that's really the only difference. If you put him on the 2000 that team is dominant instead of amazing.

Greg Roberts won the Outland, what number was he? 63?

Roberts was 65 same as Bill Krisher who was a 2 time All American and played in the NFL and AFL. Really it's splitting hairs between those 2. Roberts started out as a LB at OU wearing number 43. Still not as good as the guy that wore 43 that guy was kinda good.

The most loaded numbers I found

4 Buster Rhymes, Malcolm Kelly, Elvis Peacock, Travis Wilson

11 of course look above

19 Keith Stansberry, Randy Hughes, Michael Thompson, Joe Jon Finley

20 Rocky Calmus, Quinton Carter, Spencer Tillman

45 is solid also. I picked the wrong guy there honestly. Jim Grisham was 2 time All American he has to be the top guy. But also have Joe Bowden, Jimmy Wilkerson also wore the number.

54 Tom Brahaney, Bob Harrison are all time greats at OU then you have Jimbo Elrod and Tom Catlin Teddy Lehman also wore 54 his first year or two at OU. That's 4 all americans with that number.

93 McCoy, Kory Klein, Chase Martin all pretty much pale when compared with the best to ever play at OU.

Buddy Leake is the only reason I'm a Sooner Fan and that I'm alive today. That's my grandfather who chose Nebraska over OU in 1950 as a SR in HS and then the Nebraska coaches told him to make sure he was sure before calling OU and telling them he wasn't coming. A few days later he fell in love with Norman on his recruiting visit and here I am. Thank God! I'm not a big fan of corn.

QB'ing isn't all about arm strength and I don't really agree that we would've been better in 2000 with Sam than with Josh. What made Heupel better than Bradford--and has been the key missing ingredient with most of our quarterbacks since Josh--was the ability to pick up first downs with his feet. Bradford had the highlight reel run up in Stillwater in 08, but it seems like Heupel had a knack for consistently making plays with his feet (when needed) that no other QB has had since.

TopDawg
2/24/2010, 02:49 PM
Wow, I had some good timing there. Didn't even see badger's post until after I posted. I never went to a football game as Top Dawg, but I did march in the 1999 Homecoming Parade as Top Dawg. I was wearing a Heupel jersey and an improvised visor (made out of posterboard). Does that disqualify me as being eligible for #0? Does it move me ahead of Sam and Josh?

Sam Bradford against OSU in 08.

I should've emphasized the word "consistently." J-Dub had some good games on the ground. Made some great runs against Texas in his debut and broke the century mark against Kansas. But was there much more? And I mentioned Sam's big run against OSU. But did he have many other big ones?

What most people didn't realize or forgot about Heupel is how many times he moved the chains with his feet on critical plays. It's a huge part of what made him a winner.

ndpruitt03
2/24/2010, 07:29 PM
White had no knees. Bradford actually always uses his feet pretty good, but he doesn't have to run much. If Heupel had that line last year he probably never uses his feet also. Especially because he had knee injuries before coming to OU.

TopDawg
2/24/2010, 08:11 PM
You've got a point. Maybe Heupel was better at picking up first downs with his feet because he HAD to be better at it. All I know is that it's a talent that is too often over-looked in quarterbacks who are prolific passers. Colt McCoy was also really good at it. If he wasn't, we'd be on a 3-game winning streak against Texas.

He didn't do it as consistently as Josh only because he never had the streak of good health (leg-wise) that Josh had at OU. For all intents & purposes, JW only had 3 games of full health @ OU when it came to the knees: the aforementioned RRS, vs. KU (112 yds. rushing), & BU (getting sacked a gazillion times destroyed his yardage total, but minus the sacks, he had 12 carries for 61 yds. while throwing for well over 3 bills). The next game, he was the first of the blown knees in Lincoln early in the 2nd quarter. Basically, all I was saying before was that until he got hurt, he was certainly proving to be the type of QB who could take off & go if that's what the D gave him.

Oh yeah...absolutely. And if he would've stayed that type of QB, we would've beaten LSU. That's the kind of play you need to make in those big games against talented defenses.

For that matter, Bomar was that type of QB too...but he didn't do it consistently because he got kicked off the team. ;)
