..in this latest Gallup Poll...
http://www.gallup.com/poll/125849/Hawaii-Tops-Utah-Nation-Best.aspx...and, we in Alabama are only decimal points behind.

I don't get it. I lived out there for 10 yrs from '76-'86 and you could never have convinced me of this. What do you think is the explanation for this? Gallup is, whether you agree with them or not, a respected organization.

I don't get it. I like it here.

You read it wrong. West Virginia is last. We're tied for 40th and ahead of you guys. No one's gonna convince me that Kansas is better off than Oklahoma though.

I think you are reading that wrong. West Virginia is 50th (worst), Oklahoma is 41st or in a 3 way tie for 39th. There is only 9.7 points between best and worst so it sounds pretty even to me.

KC > anything in Oklahoma. And well being has to do with good health. Go take a look at the folks at the mall in Oklahoma.

Lets see, morally sound state (thatll bug some people though), farely safe, cheap to live here, stable housing market and job market, I think Oklahoma probably gets a bad rap because many people still think we live in TeePees and dont have the internet

Oklahoma is a good place, but like most states that can be considered southern, we have more than our share of fattassery.

And kansas city...I was there last week. It was 6 degrees...f that. They can keep it.

They interviewed residents of each state and compared scores. I think that drop from 3rd best work environment to 20th is because the Oklahoma unemployment rise lagged behind the rest of the US. We as a state gotta get workin out though. 49th in healthy behavior?!?!

Here's the jist of what they asked. (http://www.well-beingindex.com/methodology.asp)

Us and the SEC are always at the bottom of health polls (diabetes, obesity, lack of access to healthy food and health programs, you name it, we and the SEC have it).

However, polls also show that we like our state, much like the proud SEC likes themselves, so while a national poll will tell us that our state isn't very good for our health, we continue to enjoy life in our unhealthy, non-well being way.

Take this poll for what it's worth, cuz it might be worthless.

Hey, four decades is nowhere near long enough to know the ramifications of such a step. It'll fail. Just you wait!

How could Hawaii possibly afford healthcare for its citizens?

Do they have more tourist revenue or somethin' than we do? It just makes no sense.

They interviewed a whole 4900 people here in OK for those statistics!

we rank near the bottom in their "healthy behavior" category (basically, how many smokers and fat people are there), and near the bottom in their "basic access" category

It's probably all the oil revenue they collect.

The whole study by design looks to be a subjective, biased mess, but 4900 is actually a pretty huge sample.

What a surprise.

KC has more edible bbq than Oklahoma. KC'ers should have more health problems!
