I liked poetry boy... taking his little shots at big brother, because he just has no better plan: "We not only write words, we mean them!"

Yeah. I am sure that you do. And your words are "hoser", "eh", "back-bacon", "Molsons", "brew", and "HHHhhhhoooockey night!" Those, tossed in with a generous helping of froggie-speak.

How's that statue of Lord Stanley treating you, Vancouver? Hopefully that's a great reminder of your heritage, since you haven't held up his cup since last century.

BTW, I know you like to throw your free health care system at us. So allow me to retort.

Those livers of yours that need that free health care? They are in that condition courtesy of the aforementioned Molsons. Molsons is owned by Coors. American.

You own a bunch of darkness for 8 months out of the year. We own your livers.

Good luck with that.

Also, one little favor please. Quit giving your imitation dollars to our Mexican workforce at the McDonald's drive through window. You see, they were raised on pesos and don't understand what real currency looks like. Your USA knockoffs just confuse them. (Nice work on the 5-cent piece, btw... it's just like a real Jefferson, with a cute, fuzzy little beaver on one side.)

If you just do the legitimate exchange at the border, then you won't retard the progress of our Mexicans, as they continue to grow into full fledged leaches to our economy sending all their hard-earned sub-minimum wage earnings back to their drug lords back home.

Really.

You wouldn't want dear old "Abuela"'s body dumped at the Ciudad Juarez/El Paso border because her poor illegally hired grandson the roofer sent back a Loon or Elizabeth to the drug kingpin, would you? That would just be flat-out irresponsible.

Oh, and hey, all your talent that lives in NY, Chicago, LA, and other parts of America because you're just too damn cold and boring say, "Eh!"

The Wife and I went to Toronto a few years back and although we had a good time...it was a real dreary concrete block of housing and businesses that reminded me of what it might be like to live in a nicer version of a Russian City.

Last night when they said that Vancouver was one of the best cities to live in in North America and they had a blimp type shot of Vancouver from the air...I suddenly was reminded of just another Toronto that was really just west sitting on the Pacific Ocean like a huge lump of concrete.

Both of these cities (Toronto and Vancouver) have lots of people but absolutely no character.

No trees.

When I think of Canada I think of trees, lumberjacks and Royal Mounted Police on horseback searching the wilderness for bad guys.....not a huge lump of concrete with streets.

Hey Bud Boomer ;)

Greater Vancouver makes Tulsa look like Enid. I'll give you Toronto, it sucks. Vancouver, however is like a city built amid island after island of forests. One of the most picturesque areas on Earth IMO.

It just didn't look like it from the pics I saw last night. I'll agree that it might be on an island and even be surrounded by beauty....but the city looked like it had swallowed up the island with concrete.

Is that a better explanation of why I felt that it was on it's way to a Toronto type of city?

No, I see what you mean. The main difference is, if you go 50 miles in any direction from Toronto, it looks like western Kansas. The Canucks built Vancouver similar to Manhattan...very concentrated. But I'm with you, I like heavily wooded downtown areas.

You know, I agree with you. It's not cool to seek wealth and status by suppressing your fellow man's well-being. That's why the successful and fortunate among us should volunteer, give charitably, and/or try to make their goods and services accessible to as many people as possible. I'm even cool with the government trying to incentivize such activities (e.g. tax deductions for charity, etc.) But I'm not for government pretending to be the good samaritan and "level the playing field" or "spread the wealth around" or any other number of meddlesome activities which actually end up enriching the politicians and their backers. The government confiscates wealth from the lower middle class to give to the super-rich, and robs from the upper middle class to give to the poor, and so on and so on. But in no case does the government ever "care" about those who happen to benefit from this largesse at any given time. It's done to cater to a particular special interest or persuade a certain voting demographic. Wouldn't the logical argument be for the federal government to just stay out of all our lives as much as possible? Take, say, 15-20% of our earnings (instead of 40%) in order to continue doing the basic functions of government and stop using its capricious, inefficient, and corrupt power to "care for" some people or protect others' "money and power?"

20% of $29K* leaves shat to try to live on, that's why.

29,174.00 - 5835.00 = 23,389.00 per year. 23,389 divided by 12 = 1944.92 per month to subsist. Granted, that's with the "perks" of being a public servant. Most people don't get the health care, retirement, etc.

20% of $800K? Much more doable. 800,000 - 160,000 = 740,000 divided by 12 = 61,666 per month. Oh my, however shall we get by?! *fanning ones-self in panic*

And this is what the masses are being cajoled into believing that is somehow unfair? That protecting the $61K per month will somehow trickle down into making the $1900K per month more beneficial in the long run for all concerned?

There ain't enough Acid in the world that'll make me swallow that load.

That's why across-the-board taxation is bullshat.

I refuse to believe in the upper-crust's desire to pay their share for the "greater good" to help society overall. Too many loopholes, tax breaks, shelters, excuses, etc.

*Just so you know, $29K+ is starting annual salary for a teacher in Oklahoma. Less than that for a rookie cop. Uh, WTF? They are both getting screwed. More so for the average minimum wage worker trying to live, let alone raise a family. And the USMC Private on Tinker AFB? His annual salary is MUCH less: 2010? 1447.20 per month. Holy carp. Of course, if he's deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in a combat zone, he'll probably earn $100 more a month. Now that's livin' high on the proverbial hawg, ain't it? :P

I'm not really a flat tax guy. At least not pragmatically. In practice I think a two-tiered system, as in Paul Ryan's Roadmap, is more feasible. His idea is that folks making >$100K cough up 25%, those under $100K pay 10%.

Dear Canada,

Flannel is not a "style".

Thanks!

And as if we didn't have enough proof of your stumbling bumbling goofiness....

Canada... you had a mime at the closing ceremonies. A mime.

All of that goodwill you engendered at these games... pretty much gone now.

I'm worried about you Canada. You just have too much froggie in you. If you actually do ever get invaded, I give you about 15 minutes on the over/under for how long it takes you to turn that maple leaf flag to all white.

Good Lord, you people probably like Jerry Lewis, too.

I grant that mimes are the dregs of the entertainment barrel, if they're not the ring of scum under the barrel. They shoud not only be silent, but invisible. That said, Canada's joke on itself about the screw-up in the opening ceremony was good. I like how they let the girl who got, uh... stiffed in the opening have a redemptive moment relighting the big torches. That was pretty classy, even with a mime.

As for Canada having too much frog... I doubt you'd find too many Canadian Francophones to agree with that. :)

1.) That should earn you eternal bane-ment.
2.) You are dead to me.

P.S. Dammit! All of you quit saying nice things about those hosers! The nice polite behavior is just a front. Deep down they are pure evil!... EVIL I TELL YOU!!!!

:D
That reminds me of a guy (an Oklahoman) who once told me he had a virulent, passionate hatred of people from Kansas. I was thinking, WTF is there to hate... or even like about Kansans? Hating Texans or New Yorkers or even Californians, I could maybe see, becaue they have sterotypical traits - real or imagined - that one could possibly hate. But Kansans?! What about Kansas could possibly stir such emotion?!

Yes, just in case it wasn't obvious to everyone...most of what was in those closing ceremonies was us poking fun at ourselves. I've never seen a freakin' mountie, never seen an igloo, and I only eat back bacon once in a while.

But I'll give you that the mime was pretty ghey...and to true Canadian form, "I'm sorry". ;)

I liked the over-sized table top hockey game thingy. I had one of those as a kid. It was allsome.

Oh yeah, Canada sucks. They all want to be Americans which is why they all live within 50 miles of our border.;)
