I'd go with Vizio. When I bought mine it was close in price to the Philips, but the Vizio seemed to have a definite edge in picture quality.

Yeah, that's very similar to mine. Mine is a bit older than that model, but the picture quality is great (for the price). I looked at a lot of TVs and Samsung seemed to have the best, but it cost a lot more than my Vizio and I thought the Vizio's quality was very very close to Samsung's.

I just didn't think the Philips sets were all that great.

I got a 46" Sanyo LCD about 5 months ago. It's awesome. I remember looking really hard at all the TVs side by side and nothing the differences in picture. I like the Sony Bravia, but it was too expensive. But the Sanyo and the Vizio were both comparable, just cheaper. I settled on the Sanyo since it was on sale. Got it for $850 at Wal-Mart....not bad. I wasn't all that impressed with the Phillips for the price they are going for, IMO.

I now own three HD LCD Vizios, ranging in size from 55" to 32". Wouldn't own anything else. Vizio is an American company too. Which is nice.

IDGAS what you buy. I was just advising, you can pay a lot more, but you can't do better than Vizio.

What about the drinking out of your beer mug?

I'd tell him "NO".

By people who have no idea what their talking about. Thats a nice TV that will last awhile as opposed to alot of the other cheap ones.

I bought a Vizio at Circuit City the day after Christmas in '08. It has a great picture but my only complaint is it takes too long to turn on. Press the power, wait wait wait, blue screen, wait wait wait, finally get the feed in from the satellite.

It was one of the "special priced" televisions they had and maybe this is why. Other than that it has been a great TV.

Do yourself a favor and buy an LCD TV with an LED backlight. Supposedly they'll never burn out...which can be a pricey repair if a non-LED engine does.

I'm just gonna buy a bigass widescreen LCD computer monitor with part of my tax return since I pretty much always download everything I'd watch on TV other than the news. This 22 inch CRT monitor works fine and all, but a 30 inch LCD 3 feet away from my face with PC surround speakers will work just fine for me.

You could do what I did. I have a 42" Bravia in my bedroom with a VGA input, and my desktop has VGA AND DVI out the back. So I've cloned the video output to go to both simultaneously. Which means I can still easily Hulu and all that stuff, but without straining my eyes from my bed.

That plus a wireless keyboard and mouse works wonders for my, uh..."social agenda," too ;) :D

The LED ones are awesome but they are pretty new so they are pretty expensive right now.

The best thing is, they tell you how to calibrate your set once you've bought it for optimum picture.

I've never gotten one for a teevee. Maybe I would if it was new technology.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy an extended warranty. The manufactures warranty should be at least a year and if it's a lemon, it will break early on.
