I watch partly because it is the last football game for a while, and partly because of funny commercials.

Its football. They are suppose to be the two greatest teams. How can you not want to watch? Watching the commercials will be fun.

[edit]...plus its a great excuse to have friends over to make some gumbo and drink some tasty spirits. :D

I plan to watch unless my wife decides to go into labor tomorrow (which is quite possible). Either way I have the game set to DVR

Game doesn't matter, but neither did any game in 2009. Good for commercials.

That's one damned good reason to watch right there!

Commercials are a good one too.

Really though, even though it is a rigid, superficial, fake form of football... it is still football and the last game that matters until September so I will watch.

Was talking to an English friend earlier tonight who's a big Premier League soccer fan. Their off season lasts 2 months according to him... SOOOO jealous of that (going into withdrawals just thinking about OUr off season).

I can't imagine watching soccer for 10 minutes, let alone 10 months!
Just sayin' ............... ;)

Yeah, it's great. And it will feel even shorter this year with the World Cup going on this Summer.

I've got plenty of stuff to keep my attention until football season: the Olympics, Sooner basketball, Thunder basketball, European soccer, Stanley Cup Playoffs, tennis, the World Cup, MLS, baseball. I'm still going to watch the Super Bowl, though, just because I haven't missed one in forever. And I want to see the Saints go down in flames.

Okay, it's better than soccer.

Tiddly-winks, with half the players on injured reserve, is better than soccer.

X-Treme Nose-picking is better than soccer.

If Reggie has a huge game it will be bad for the Colts

soccer is lame, just face it. This is America, not Europe, no one gives a sh*t about panzy futbol

silverwheels
2/7/2010, 02:57 AM
Yeah, it's unfortunate, because we could have the best soccer team in the world if it were more popular. As it is, we just specialize in sports we invented that the rest of the world doesn't care about for the most part.

My wife wants me to tivo it so she can watch the adds. I told her that if the tivo breaks from fast forwarding it threw the game and just watching the adds, is because that is fundamentally wrong

The only fun I've had watching soccer was when that Stanford chick was kicking azz and taking names. At least I think she played fer Stanford? I've been practicing my ponytail body slam maneuver ever since.

Unless you are a parent and thus required to go to your child's soccer games, you have not seen really bad, really boring soccer. The ball is kicked up the field, followed by children racing after it, then it is kicked back down the field, followed by children racing after it, and often it goes out of bounds so that play is stopped until it can be thrown back onto the field. This goes on seemingly forever. Games that end in regulation tied are continued for another full period of play. At this level the fields don't have scoreboards so you have no idea how much time is left until the horn sounds for 1 minute to go. And up here in the North Country, soccer season extends into winter, lasting until basketball season begins.

Watching World Cup soccer is like the difference between visiting the Louvre versus taking in the art work posted outside a kindergarten classroom. At the World Cup level, the players actually work together as a team, they do set plays (they don't huddle, of course) and when it works, make it look effortless in the execution. Watch closely sometime, the don't run so much (unless on defense) as stay in place and kick the ball to each other trying to do the same thing as offensive coordinators in football, create a mismatch. It can be as riveting as watching an offense moving the ball in a two-minute drill.

At least children's soccer is good for some laughs. There is nothing funny about watching World Cup soccer.

I'd watch lizards in wheel chairs play football....at least until animal control got there.

Wait, I really don't want to know.

There was a rerun of Criminal Minds on that was pretty good.
