View Full Version : Gabe Lynn and other Corners

Can anyone shed some light on why G. Lynn will not be a starter next year? What is he struggling with? Also, it does not appear that OU has great options at cornerback, while Texas probably will have the best 2 corners in all of college football next year and they recruited well there this year. Is there anyone on the OU roster that may turn into a legitimate corner or anyone in next year's class that OU will be going after?

well jonathan nelson, marcus trice and demontre hurst all played some last year. so maybe lynn is simply not as good as those three guys right now. although nelson played safety/nickelback, i'm not sure if he is going to play corner this year or not.

I don't think he is eliminated as being a starter. Trice/Hurst and Nelson appear to be the players to beat out at that position. Fleming and Harris also got PT this past year. Just depends on who out performs the other.

He's a safety, and he was dinged up this past year. Also, Trice is apparently a freak of nature and was going to get looks at starting over more experienced players last year. Instead he just destroyed fools on special teams. At corner we have Demontre Hurst, who played as a true freshman, and Fleming who is going to be a junior I believe. There will be a lot of competition, but the cupboard is definitely not bare. At safety we return everyone that had minutes. Carter is back, Nelson and Proctor are back as well.

Texas's corners looked great because everyone was afraid of Earl Thomas and Sergio Kindle. We threw pretty well against them. No doubt it will be a challenge, though.

I just want to know what Texas's cornerback's (#4?) vertical leap is. That was an insane INT he grabbed in the RRS.

The one on the sideline? Wasn't that Thomas?

Great forum, I've been waiting for someone to j on this, and Jameel Flemming was listed as a backup this year. And also, Demontre Hurst is "the BEST FRESHMAN I've EVER coached" -Bob Stoops (Last August, I think)

OU doesnt have great options? Nelson and Hurst played very well when they played, Stoops absolutely loves hurts. We may be unproven but we have good options.

As far as texas having the two best CBs, really?

Hurst played well in the PT he saw, but especially had some good moments in the Sun Bowl including covering the last pass play of the game.

Looking good this year on defense... hopefully Adrian Taylor will be back in time as he is the anchor on the line.

Compared to our running game last year, maybe, but I was still nervous everytime Landry dropped back to pass.....

Rushing Yards against Texas

2008: 48
2009: -16

I'd say that is a problem. Actually, I would say that is THE problem... u can throw for 5 td passes and still lose.... Rushing Yards! The Team that rushes for the most yards wins this game every year since Stoops has been here.

No crap, Sammy B throws for what, 383 and 5 tds and we lose by 10, not good

More than most other sports, coll ball is all about playing with whatever you've got in the way of manpower. Our run game, I am sure, has not escaped Bob's notice. I feel pretty confident it will be better next year with an improved Oline. We'll be fine.

... hopefully Adrian Taylor will be back in time as he is the anchor on the line.

I have two issues with this. Love A-Train's commitment and leadership... but he disappeared without GK on the field... and I know for a fact personally that even when you're "100 percent" healthy... it's damn scary to go balls-out every down again after snapping your leg in two pieces. That can take years to gain that confidence back.

I'd love to see the guy prove me wrong and be the next GK or Tommie Harris, but as fans who want to analyze the depth chart, you might want to put him on the "darkhorse candidate for starter" list.

#4 is Aaron Williams, the young man who knocked out Sammy B
