Sweetness. I'm gonna miss the Radio Flyer, though. That thing needs to go into the Switzer Center.

Someone should approach the university about including it. They may be more receptive than you think.

I'll ask Calvin what happened to it when I'm at Othello's next.

Anyone have any idea how far back Calvin goes? I remember him when I was in grad school in the mid 1980's, and I know he wasn't there when my folks graduated in 1960....but I've got no finer bracket than that.

I always buy a paper and I never read it. Assuming I'm carrying cash.

He's my younger brother's age or close to it. Born somewhere around '63. They (younger brother, Calvin) were in the same scout troop for years and one of the best scouts you'd ever know..... at least thats what all the scout leaders of that particular troop thought of him. My father was one of the scout leaders.

He's on Facebook. He spends a lot of time flirting with all his "girlfriends" by FB chat.

I always pay for a paper but never take it because I get it at home...Calvin is a classic and hey, he is out trying to make on his own not just begging for welfare or something...

That's a nice thing to say, and it's so true!

I got to see Calvin for the first time when we were in town for the KState - OU game last fall. I saw Gerald McCoy several times that weekend too. The Friday before the OU - Kansas game I saw Stoops down on Campus Corner, so I felt like I had hit the jackpot. I love celebrity sightings! :D

Yup, that'd be correct... makes him a year younger than me. I remember him as far back as Central Mid High in 77 - 78.

Ok, I spoke to Calvin today and he has his old wagon at home.

Seriously, is there anyone that has a connection to the university or Norman that might consider getting his wagon and displaying it somewhere? There are businesses perhaps, but it would be better if it was a civil entity that wouldn't go out of biz and lose it forever.

Im certain that David Boren would scoff at it being displayed anywhere on campus

I have no idea what the general attitude is toward Calvin now, but, in the mid-1980's it was regarded as the right thing to do to buy a paper and shoot the breeze with him for a little while.

Heading over to listen to Whale and the Flea....nice buzz happening....twilight with a warm summer evening coming on...stopping to talk with Calvin with five minutes

In a certain way, those were the best days I have ever had.

Collier11

I still go out on campus from time to time and I can tell you that most people politely tell him no thanks or politely buy a paper and throw it away

well, that's too bad, though many's the time I unrolled my 'Calvin Paper' to discover it was yesterday's.

He will still pose for pics and all that, I had a friend (a hot girl) who decided she wanted to touch his helmet several years back, it almost turned into a Something About Mary moment

a legend selling a paper that is less valuable than fecal filled toilet paper.

He needs to get his hands on some DMN or NYT....then he would make some serious bank!

He definitely needs to be enshrined as a Sooner Legend! I'd love to see him get in a tussle with a Texass fan.

I fully disagree. Boren would probably be in favor. But I would go to Switzer or Stoops.

This. But then you gotta laugh at his hustle. "There by the grace of God..."

Let's see, I was buying papers from him in 1978.
