Me, I own a web development company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. I write code on a diminishing basis as I continue to hire, I develop new business, and really focus on verbally and emotionally abusing my employees. We've been in business for two years this month and have been very blessed to survive in a crap economy.

And frozo, not to dissuade your profession of choice, but have you seen the articles the NY Times have been doing on the law profession lately? Here's a link to one of them. (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/30/business/30hours.html) They had it coincide with the beginning of that ABC drama on new lawyers working for top firms (sexual tension, dog eat dog competition, still be friends at the end of the day, that type of thing). It's an interesting read for anyone interested in the profession, and probably mostly reflects the larger metropolis areas, not the Alaskas and frozen metropolis areas ;)

Yeah, I'm keeping up with the legal job market and its related horribleness. I don't plan on practicing in Alaska, nor do I plan on practicing in a large market like NY, SF, or Chicago. My ultimate goal is either work as an AUSA or in a large firm in a midsize city. Billable hours is a concern in firm life, not so much in the US Attorney's office. All I can do is work my butt off and keep my grades up.

I have six interviews in a couple of weeks for local firms so I can work there in the summer and check it out and figure out if I like big firm life in Birmingham (of course while they figure out if they like me and see if I'll steal the office supplies or something.)

No, but it would certainly be more interesting. However, you as a doctor probably used our books and journals daily, either in school or doing research. I always tell people that we publish The Economist, Gray's Anatomy, and at one time, The Sporting News. I don't care who you are, you've at least heard of one of those.

Then I worked for 2 years at Tate Publishing, a piece of **** vanity press run by a bunch of scumbags. Don't ever do business with them. I was a copy editor, developmental editor, and ghost writer. Now I'm a technical writer/developer at a company in OKC, writing and developing training courses, mostly for government and military contracts. I'm also a freelance editor and in a few months I'll be editor-in-chief and director of production of a new small press publisher.

I work as a supplier manager for the same publisher I've been at for the last 5 years. I've gotten to go to India and the UK multiple times and I've got my second trip to Manila coming up in a few months. There was talk of my living in Manila for a year, but that's been scrapped for now.
