I guess I feel like venting today or something.
All I know is that this is really a sore subject with me. Mainly because I don't think the problem is 'us'. We're paying our fair share of taxes. ALL of us are. The problem is 'them'. The federal government is totally out of control, irresponsible and shows NO restraint when it comes to spending. We don't need more taxes. We need common sense and discipline in Washington. The problem is, they don't have what it takes to curb spending. It takes integrity and compassion to do what's right, and NONE of them have any.

The fact is ALL of our taxes have already gone up in the last year and will go even higher this year. While our representatives LIVE LIKE KINGS! :mad: -- and many aren't even 'patriotic' enough to pay their OWN taxes. :mad: :mad:

Backdoor taxes to hit middle class

By Terri Cullen Terri Cullen – Mon Feb 1, 4:09 pm ET

NEW YORK (Reuters.com) --The Obama administration's plan to cut more than $1 trillion from the deficit over the next decade relies heavily on so-called backdoor tax increases that will result in a bigger tax bill for middle-class families.

In the 2010 budget tabled by President Barack Obama on Monday, the White House wants to let billions of dollars in tax breaks expire by the end of the year -- effectively a tax hike by stealth.

While the administration is focusing its proposal on eliminating tax breaks for individuals who earn $250,000 a year or more, middle-class families will face a slew of these backdoor increases.

The targeted tax provisions were enacted under the Bush administration's Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Among other things, the law lowered individual tax rates, slashed taxes on capital gains and dividends, and steadily scaled back the estate tax to zero in 2010.

If the provisions are allowed to expire on December 31, the top-tier personal income tax rate will rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. But lower-income families will pay more as well: the 25 percent tax bracket will revert back to 28 percent; the 28 percent bracket will increase to 31 percent; and the 33 percent bracket will increase to 36 percent. The special 10 percent bracket is eliminated.

Investors will pay more on their earnings next year as well, with the tax on dividends jumping to 39.6 percent from 15 percent and the capital-gains tax increasing to 20 percent from 15 percent. The estate tax is eliminated this year, but it will return in 2011 -- though there has been talk about reinstating the death tax sooner.

Millions of middle-class households already may be facing higher taxes in 2010 because Congress has failed to extend tax breaks that expired on January 1, most notably a "patch" that limited the impact of the alternative minimum tax. The AMT, initially designed to prevent the very rich from avoiding income taxes, was never indexed for inflation. Now the tax is affecting millions of middle-income households, but lawmakers have been reluctant to repeal it because it has become a key source of revenue.

Without annual legislation to renew the patch this year, the AMT could affect an estimated 25 million taxpayers with incomes as low as $33,750 (or $45,000 for joint filers). Even if the patch is extended to last year's levels, the tax will hit American families that can hardly be considered wealthy -- the AMT exemption for 2009 was $46,700 for singles and $70,950 for married couples filing jointly.

Middle-class families also will find fewer tax breaks available to them in 2010 if other popular tax provisions are allowed to expire. Among them:

* Taxpayers who itemize will lose the option to deduct state sales-tax payments instead of state and local income taxes;

* The $250 teacher tax credit for classroom supplies;

* The tax deduction for up to $4,000 of college tuition and expenses;

* Individuals who don't itemize will no longer be able to increase their standard deduction by up to $1,000 for property taxes paid;

* The first $2,400 of unemployment benefits are taxable, in 2009 that amount was tax-free.

I'm pretty sure I end up paying a whole lot more of what i consider "Unseen Taxes" during the year. It's these taxes that really **** my off as do those folks who are charging you that sales tax really turn it all in?

I've been to plenty of these Home Shows, Gun shows...ect...and even the internet stuff where you avoid paying sales tax...do these folks really pay? Do they even exist? Does our Country do enough to find these folks who don't pay?

If you or I "Regular Guy" ever get audited for writing off an extra $1000 in stuff every year that is legit and you have to sit there while some guy looks at you like you have stolen from the Federal Gov't....I'm not sure that I might not end up doing time. :D ;)

Seriously....I think way to much is made over this Personal Tax. It's all the stuff that is supposedly collected out of our pockets on a daily basis is where the largest amount of fraud lies. I could be wrong....but I just have a feeling that when Habib is selling his slushies, corn dogs and porno mags...We all aren't seeing any of those taxes get turned in. If they are turning them in...they aren't turning it all in.

That's where I get pissed.

Honest folks who try...get the shaft. Others go by for years unchecked.

This cannot be true!!! First off Obama PROMISED no tax increases for people making under 250K. And I remember when these tax breakes were passed. The media all said they were tax breaks for the rich!

How many folks don't even file anymore?

How do they continue to live in this Country?

Ask yourself that?

When you're done asking yourself that, call the IRS and turn em in. They'd LOVE to hear about it.

Technically, he's not raising taxes, but just taking away the tax cuts that Dems for years called "irresponsible," lol.

They're already elected and in office now, so I say let them try this rollback on tax cuts a try. After all, we had a surplus back when they were in effect. If it upsets some of you, well, make sure you stay angry till November.

The politicians, both the republicans and the democrats are too busy doing favors for their big campaign contributors with our money to give a darn about whether or not those favors are absolutely ridiculous. 3.4 million bucks of Obamas federal stimulus money to pay for a turtle tunnel? Are you kidding me? You can bet that somewhere in Florida there is a turtle lover who gave Obama a bunch of campaign money. I say if the turtles are too stupid to find a safe place to cross over or stay on the safe side then gather them up, make turtle soup out of them and feed the poor.

Its all about getting re-elected. They spend our money to do it.

You can argue the merits, but the idea that it was spearheaded by an Obama donor is a bit misleading. Plus, if you think the turtle tunnel is anfront to fiscal moral standards brought about by government handouts, check out the relationship between AIG and GS.

We live among nimrods here in Oregon. Oregon already is known to have an unfriendly business climate, very high personal tax rates, and one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. So what do we do last week, but vote on and pass two propositions that increased taxes on "the rich" (couples making over $250K) and on corporations. The new taxes don't directly impact us because we don't fit into either of those categories, but indirectly it does. The new taxes are already impacting employment. Small businesses are laying off people, and not hiring new people who they had budgeted for before these new tax bills passed. Plus, to add insult to injury, these new taxes are retroactive to cover 2009 too!!

God help us and save us from our own stupidity!! :mad:

If by "in the works" you mean that Matt Aresco has been wanting it really really bad then so what? Up until now, nobody has been stupid enough to actually allow it.

As I said... both parties are guilty of over spending, which causes our taxes to rise, but a turtle tunnel? Give me a break. There are so many more examples of the crap that goes on in Washington when it comes to selling us out for campaign finance money. This is but one example. They are all guilty.
