MOBILE, Ala. -- Mardy Gilyard (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=169405) had 103 yards receiving and caught a 32-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to help the North race to a 31-13 victory over the South in Saturday's Senior Bowl.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=183484), meanwhile, had a shaky outing running a pro-style offense against a sturdy defense.
He fumbled twice and finished 8 of 12 passing for 50 yards in the showcase for senior NFL prospects. Tebow's longest completion was 11 yards and he netted 4 yards on four rushes, but was never turned loose as a power runner as he often was with the Gators. He battled strep throat early but didn't miss any practice time during a week when he was trying to prove to skeptical NFL teams and draft analysts that he could be a starting pro quarterback.
One of the nation's top all-purpose threats, Gilyard also set up a third-quarter touchdown with a 43-yard catch down the right sideline and had five receptions. Both that pass and the TD came from Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=170586).
Michigan defensive lineman Brandon Graham had two sacks and a forced fumble and was chosen the game's Most Valuable Player.
Gilyard returned two kicks for 52 yards and gained 24 on two punt returns. He was named offensive player of the game while Mississippi State's Jamar Chaney earned defensive honors.
Tulane receiver Jeremy Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=177115) had six catches for 82 yards and added a 27-yard run on an end around, and was chosen the South's most outstanding player. That honor went to Central Michigan's LeFevour for the North. He completed half of his 10 passes for 97 yards and added a 1-yard touchdown run on a sneak, once again outdistancing the much more heralded Tebow.
LeFevour finished with more total touchdowns (150) than any other player in Football Bowl Subdivision, including Tebow (145).
Zac Robinson (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=174054) had the game's best passing numbers, throwing for 176 yards and a touchdown before getting intercepted late in the game.
Tebow played 11 snaps in the first half, and the South was down two scores by the time he re-entered the game to loud applause late in the third.
Dexter McCluster (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=191216) fumbled two plays into his first drive of the half, and his second began at the South's 1-yard line.
Tebow led the South to a couple of first downs before Koa Misi stripped the ball from him. He had another fumble on the next drive but lineman Jeff Byers fell on the ball.
Gilyard's teammate, Tony Pike (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=169390), is considered the top-rated NFL prospect among the participating quarterbacks and he looked solid in a brief outing. He was 5 of 12 for 45 yards all in the first half. Gilyard caught two of those passes for 21 yards.
LeGarrette Blount (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=378483) had a 14-yard touchdown run for the North, while Lonyae Miller (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=189887) gained a game-high 44 yards on nine carries.
Alabama players accounted for all of the South's points. Robinson hit tight end Colin Peek (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=173986) for a 19-yard touchdown and Leigh Tiffin booted field goals of 43 and 33 yards.

50 yards on 12 attempts, damn near sounds like Colty-boy McCoy.

Whatever teams drafts Timmuh might as well fit him in H-back shoulder pads day one.

I was glad to see Gilyard have a great game. He worked his butt off with different jobs when he lost his scholarship back in '07 I believe. Dynamic player.

Timmah was the best QB in the last ten years (Probably really the last two thousand years).

Why wouldn't we talk about him?

Zac Robinson had the best stats as far as the South QBs. Hmmm - is Zac really better than Tebow? Maybe Urban Meyer is taking LOA over that?

And what's this strep shat? I thought there was a report somewhere that denied he was sick a few days back.

I don't know about the rest of these guys, but for me it's a public service to give you one more thing to bitch and moan about. :P

How did Pike "look solid" with numbers that were worse than Tebow's?

And on the 8th day the earth began to rumble and from it's loins shat forth a fully grown human male. The High Priest of the Floridites discovered the man and carried his naked muscular body back to his temple. The High Priest made a decree throughout all of the land. He shall be called Tebow and with this football he will do all of my wonders, but once we separate he will be mediocre to less than par and everyone will stone him to death in a land called Detroit FOR MY NAME IS URBAN MEYER!

As an NFL QB prospect? Yeah, probably.

Yeah, but can he splatter his teammates with spittle and indignant platitudes of "leadership"?

Ya' know? Let's just let Tebow move on to his next role as a late 3d round pick, as an H-back, small tight-end (maybe not). I'm not a big fan of his, because, well, he ain't a Sooner. But he has some pretty okay highlight reels. And there have been more than a few of his sort that have earned a bit of coin the league -- Don Strock, Guido Meerkins, Bucky Richardson . . . .

Go forth Tebow, but don't expect to wear a number less than 24.

Yes! I can't wrap my head around the Tebow interest on SF.com. The guy had a great college career. *Had* - i.e. we won't face him again. If he had been a Sooner, I would have felt pretty much the same as I do now - I would have loved what he did on the field and been annoyed by his sideline antics (of course the level of passion would have been much higher).

The only thing I'll really hate him for he hasn't done yet. Teaming with Focus on the Family for a superbowl commercial is down right disgusting. I lived in Colorado Springs and those people are nut-jobs. I'll take a goofy beer commercial any day.

I think most of us would have liked his sideline antics if he had been a Sooner. That's just homerism, which is why the Boz is liked here and despised everywhere else.

I have no problem with it. I can always turn down the volume or change the channel if I don't want to see it.

Zac is a lot better at taking the snaps and dropping back...has a quicker release and steps into his passes better...

Don't count me in as most of us - Tebow would have annoyed me. There have been Sooner players I wasn't thrilled with too. Bomar gave me that "Chase Daniel" vibe when he was playing and I don't mean in retrospect. But hey, it's not their job to please me, but it's not my duty to be a homer.

Never liked Bosworth as he was an arrogant punk.

I would have disliked him more if he were not a Sooner, as you say.

I don't like Tebow for his endless arrogance, but I guess I would dislike him less, if he were a Sooner.

Homerism?

Love this thread.

Between Setem's decree as Urban Meyer and LSU Freek's animation.... damn funny stuff here.
