12"+ snow right through the middle of Rogers county = THE suck. Maybe we'll only get about 1/2" of ice. Along with all the supplies one would usually load up on in weather situations like this I've also have a good supply of hard copy pron just in case I lose power.

All kidding aside, I'm leaving work early today to set out extra bales of hay for the cows, air up the tires on the generator trailer and gas er' up, move another half-rick or so of seasoned wood up onto the porch, and make room in one of the barns to pull in a couple of trucks so I don't have to scrape ice off them to go feed.

Like Pat already mentioned, I'll take 100" of snow over 1" of ice, and right where they're predicting the most ice is where the farm is. ****.

A few days ago I asked NP if he needed anything from the store before the storm and all he requested were potatoes. I, however, went nuts and stocked up on a lot of other useless crap, like fruits and veggies and cereal and stuff.

If I was thinking, I would have gotten bread, but I wasn't. A lot of places here in Tulsa are closing down, businesses and schools and such. They canceled their rabble rousing city council meeting. The snow plows with salt were out even before the rain started (which it now has here).

While they no longer predict 10 inches of snow for Tulsa County, they still predict a few inches and are increasing their ice predictions as the snow prediction falls. Dooooooooooooooooommmmmmmm

Also, as we are all about to freeze to death, I suggest everyone confess something to the board before they go.

Actually, it's turning out to be pretty much a non-event. Damn weather terrorists. But schools and airline traffic in the Tulsa metro are shut down based on the flippin' forecast. When I was in the USAF, we never cancelled nuttin' based on a forecast. Because we were smart. And stuff.

Now, the good part. I figured that since I was running low on beer, I'd stop off at the liquor store on the way home yesterday amid the utter civil panic and general over-reaction. I did. Mrs. Homey, being a superb wife and my best friend realizing the same problem, and without being asked to do so by moi, did the same thing. Thus, Icey Storm of Death, which never actually panned-out, is responsible for there being two cases of fine imported 6.0 beer in mi casa. WIN!

C&CDean

It might be hype up in Tulsy, but the kid just called from the ranch and said the power is out and there's tree limbs everywhere on the ground - and it's getting worse. They just released us from work, so now I'm off to the Deanarosa. Safe travels to those of us who are actually having an event.

i dunno how it looks in Tulsa, but it's looking bad in Norman already. Been raining all day. The roads are just starting to get really slick, but the trees and everything else above ground has a half inch of ice on it already. Trees are looking pretty bad. My neighbor already has limbs littering the yard and my fiance's Jeep is absolutely encased in ice. I'm planning to stay in the house for a couple of days.

BTW, I heard that all the stores are out of bread after the runs on the store for supplies. Do people sit at home during a storm and eat bread? Like, more bread than they would normally eat during a 3-5 day period? Weird.

I hear you can't buy batteries either. Here's a tip. Adult novelty stores (a/k/a "Priscilla's," "Christies Toy Box," etc.) always have plenty of batteries in the popular sizes of 9v, D, C, AA and AAA. Learned that one during the 2007 Icey Storm of Death.;)

Some trees are even uprooted, and there's one that's down that me and another person couldn't put our arms around. Probably 200 year old tree. Gone.

We lost power yesterday, and it's looking like we won't have it back for several days. There are snapped powerpoles all over the place, power lines in the roads and in the bar ditches, trees laying on power lines and across driveways and roads. It's the worst I've ever seen. But the ****ing roads are just wet, and you can drive 50 without a problem until you get to about Slaughterville/Noble. The further north the trees aren't as bad, but the roads are crappy. I'd trade the trees for some crappy roads any time. I'm gonna be cleaning up pasture for a year after this one. ****.

Silly me, I figured, with schools closed and all, I could find a couple of high school boys who wanted to earn $20.00 an hour lugging said stuff from garage to attic, which is competely decked and doesn't involve a ladder, but is accesible through a standard door off one of the upstairs rooms.

Bottomline, no soap. We called everyone we know with HS boys and none of them would leave the xBox long enough to come over and help a brutha. Heck, I even offered to come get them in my Jeep.

I shudder for the future of our country.

if that included driving time up the Turner i'd probably do that :D

Hells yes! The power just came back on at the Deanarosa!! I just got home from picking up another couple 5-gallon cans of fuel for the generator, and stopping by the likker store and the walmarts for some sammich stuff. Before we could leave we had to help the neighbor across the road who had a monster post oak tree laying all the way across the road from his place to mine. Fence destroyed, etc.

After checking on the cows and looking around it's gonna take a lot more than a year to clean up from this one. Hell, I may never get it all cleaned up. I don't think I have a single tree on the whole ****ing 300 acres that isn't damaged or destroyed. Fences all tore up, cows with icicles hanging off their ears, and enough firewood for the next 50 years. But hey, I can take a hot shower now, and not have to tote a flashlight around with me everywhere. If I can figure out how, I'll post a couple pics.

I got my power back Thursday night (when I made a previous post) then the power went down again and has been out since. Power lines are down all over the Lawton area and the road as far as Chickesha (sp). I wouldn't be surprised if the power is down for a week for many in southern and SW Oklahoma. I made my escape this morning and came up to Norman. I don't plan to go back until Tuesday. Being without the juice is pretty damn boring and chilly

Yeah, I've got a bunch more but I don't feel like posting them. The pics don't even come close to describing the destruction. Hell, there's not even a weed that isn't broken in half. I'm gonna start cutting **** off the road tomorrow (if it'll warm up enough to start melting the 2+inches of ice that are on everything). For the first time ever, my satellite (Dish) went out. When we called, they said "you need to clean the snow off your dish." I went out there, got out a ladder, and there was some snow. I cleaned it off, but underneath and on all the dish components was at least 2 solid inches of ice. I broke that **** all off, and it's working good. Of course neither of the OU games are on TV now, but at least I can watch KSU give KU a game of it.

I'm gonna sponsor a "Clean up the Deanarosa" party here pretty soon. All the beer/whisky/tequila/martinis you can drink, and all the steak, ribs, chicken, turkey, brisket, and Slovacek's sausages you can eat. Just come out, and be willing to work.

Dean,

Far be it from me to give you Deandarosa maintenance advice, but I learned this in the wake of Hurricane Hugo in SC back in the day. When cutting up downed trees with a chainsaw, pay attention to what you're cutting because you may be cutting a sizable branch or trunk that is pinning down a different branch or trunk that will unexpectedly spring back or up with incredible force, thus hurting you bady. Or worse.

And, ideally, wear a helmet and eye protection.

Be careful man.

So what is your plan, or have you formulated one? You have a ravine to put all the branches? I figured you'd cut the applicable ones up for firewood (for the entire state) but there's only so much mulching you can do. You gonna dig a big hole and bury any? The big trees may be prety tough to deal with, too. You got one of those old two person saws?

Oh, yeah, you have a three point mounted splitter?

I have a trailered splitter. Those 3-point ones will burn up the hydraulic pump on your tractor unless you've got one (like my big John Deere) with a detent on the hydraulic lever. I've split at least 150+ ricks of wood with it, but this is gonna set a new record.

I'll probably just do like I've done when I clear pasture. Cut the firewood up, then push all the brush into a pile. Light that puppy off and have one of those 10-day bonfires going. And that's no lie. I've lit one off, and it burned like hell for a couple days, then smoldered for a couple, then kind of went out. A week or so later I threw a bunch of brush on it and within 30-minutes she's blazing again. It's amazing how long those hot embers stay hot. That's why people have big-assed brushfire a week after they burned brush. The wind kicks up and there goes a fire.

I just need the ice and snow to melt some so I can get started. The only melting is in the pasture on the ground. The trees are still splitting. I was feeding the cows about an hour ago and all of a sudden "crack!" in the woods next to me and another tree comes down. I had to hammer the ice off the chains on all the gates, and hammer ice off the gates to open them cause with the ice they weighed a ton. I don't know if I mentioned this yet, but ice sucks. Big. My old 85' Ford F-250 feed truck with the 6.9 diesel wouldn't start - for the first time ever. Batteries are now dead from cranking. I had to pull the 09' out into the pasture to feed tonight.

Anynow, I will be planning a cleanup party when we get a little warm weather. I'll expect everyone to show.

Nah, them cows are tougher than nails. I had about 8 young calves (a couple less than a week old) all piled up in a round bale feeder laying up in the hay. They were toasty as hell. I've got a few mommas who are fixin' to drop. I've seen them born in a ice storm with ice and crap all over them shivering like a leaf - then go out the next afternoon and the new calf is romping around. I have lots of respect for the hardiness of cattle. Of course my cattle are well fed, have easy access to water, etc. A lot of other folks' cattle are going to die in this weather.

Pretty much dead on, Im staying in a suite at MGM grand in July and it ran me $430 for 3 nights, a normal room is about $50-100 a night depending on the hotel. Buffets are hard to find for less than $20-30, I ate at Subway two Julys ago and it ran me and the lady $30, at f***ing subway.

If by the old strip you mean downtown and Freemont, you are right.

i didn't say they were nice places :D

I dont have to have nice but atleast a step up from that place or the stratosphere

You aren't supposed to be doing much in your room but passing out drunk anyway unless it's a honeymoon or some ****. You get an off-strip, off Fremont Neighborhood Casino for Motel 6 prices or sometimes less and your still 5 minutes from all the shiny lights and Ocean's 11 scenery and all that jazz. It's not like it matters that much, even the supposed nice places are all fake anyway...Duh! It's Vegas, land of gambling, booze, tits, and cheap food. If you're worried about having the finest sheets and a friggin' bidet you aren't doing it right.

You can get Mandalay for $100 a night and THE Hotel for $120 if you work at it.

Stop being a bunch of cheap ****s.

Circus Circus isn't bad, it's just not close to anything

Lordy, I'd hate to see what you considered bad!

Riviera is a ton better than CC. Plus, it's right across from Slots'o'fun, the peopleofwalmart.com of Vegas.

Imperial Palace is under 75 dollars a night, the rooms are god awful, but the drinks are damn strong.

Planet Hollywood had a deal going on this summer that was pretty sweet you got a very large bottle of alcohol for every night you stayed. It was the win. Also I suggest the Bally's penny sluts I won 600 bucks killing time there and paid for half of our last trip.

Trust me when I say there is much worse than that here...In fact there are places that make peopleofwalmart.com look like the friggin' playboy mansion.
