Just saw an angle on this that Ted's Widow has been campaigning (by the sound of it) harder than Martha and that she has retired to her Home to watch in solitude tonight.

I feel for her as she lost a Husband so that this could happen.

That said....you'd think Martha would have understood the situation better and worked her *** off to solidify a win.

Ever heard of GI's voting absentee in their home state?

I'm positively thrilled that no matter how this is spun, it remains a direct rebuke to BHO's most important domestic issue. If he couldn't get this Donk lady elected to a seat that's been in Donk hands since 1927 and while Teddy's corpse hasn't yet cooled, he's clearly bankrupt of political stroke. So shall go the rest of his wacky agenda.

Welcome to gridlock! Good for America because it means the Donk Congress can't monkey with us.

from the Washington Post

Congressional strategists had warned in the closing days of the Massachusetts Senate race that a Coakley defeat had the potential to trigger a series of retirements within the Democratic ranks as members flee a political wave that could wash out dozens in the House and high single digits on the Senate side.

"My message to my clients? Jump ship now," said one Democratic operative who advises a number of targeted Members of Congress. "Obama can't help you."

Democratic leaders spent much of Tuesday reaching out to vulnerable Members to convince them that the circumstances that led to Coakley's demise were unique to her and the state and not indicative of the general political environment in which they will have to run in November

There's nothing other than healthcare that can possibly be credited with Brown's win.

Coakley is a perfectly acceptable Democrat for MA that would have won that seat in 99 elections out of 100 in MA. The only variable that has really changed this election from any other MA election is healthcare.

first of all socialism is not a form of government. China is a republic as well. So is Venezuela.

Socialism is the government giving more to the people. And by more I mean more hand outs. It is where the government owns all commerce and trade. That no private wealth exists.

And frankly, my fellow Americans. We already live in a socialistic society.

If not, why does the government already own 30% of the private wealth in America?

I'd mainly be okay with that, but there probably has to be some kinda interaction with the feds due to medicare, medicaid, the assorted children's health programs, and so on.

The biggest problem we have as a nation (and the greatest strength in other ways) is that we are just too damned big and complex.

Exactly.

And the USFG can easily run up debt and print more money with not a care in the world.

States, for the most part, cannot do that, and have to live within a budget. Letting the states handle this issue is the only sustainable way to do it.

I'd love to see how many people think socialized healthcare is just the best thing ever when a state has to cut cops, firemen, teachers AND doctors when the economy goes south.

I think this election means both parties can't take any state, any Congressional seat, any gubernatorial election, for granted in 2010.

Even Oklahoma, the reddest state in the 2010 election, could elect a Democratic Senator in 2010 if Democrats hate Coburn enough by now (and I think there is no question that both parties do after nearly six years of him).

The 2008 election taught Republicans that Democrats can make any state a battleground state. The 2010 election is starting to show that nothing can be taken for granted... and that if they want health care overhaul, there will be no unread bills signed, nothing that won't be up for debate after this Massachusetts election.

...and that Coburn once again has his filibuster toy back :D

Yeah, the aftershock just knocked down any remaining building standing in Haiti that wasn't felled in the first place. Some outlying cities have been hit, but nowhere to the extent of Port Au Prince.

So is Haiti on a fault or is this volcanic, and why hasn't the Dominican Republic been bothered as well? Is it a building code type of thing?

That depends. Despite some of the big reporting on retiring dems, there are roughly twice as many republicans not running for re-election. So it will come down largely to whcih ones they are and how much that effects the anti-incumbent feelings right now.

From the Miami Herald..

Although earthquakes are typically associated with the West Coast, the Caribbean is actually a seismically active area, where plates and fault lines are still shifting below the surface.

``That's how you got all the islands in the first place,'' said Dale Grant, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center near Denver.

The earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday occurred at 4:53 p.m. and measured a 7.0 magnitude. It was centered just 15 miles from Port-au-Prince, the capital city of nearly 1 million people.

While smaller quakes happen frequently in the Caribbean, none close to this size had been seen in Haiti in more than 25 years, Grant said. That was in June 1984, when a quake measuring 6.7 occurred about 150 miles away from Port-au-Prince.

but you would have to admit, it looks if any seats increase for either party, it has to be a Republican increase... meaning a donk decrease

..

Like Crux said, there are so many factors to take into account right now that no candidate can be considered a shoo-in (unless of course they're not up for re-election). No House seat is safe, and the only Senate seats that are safe are the ones that aren't on the 2010 ballot.

Is America mad at the Democratic Party? No, they're mad at everyone. The candidate with the best ideas who works the hardest to solve these economic issues, health care or not, gets elected.

NPR barely mentioned the election this morning. The Left is just besides themselves...

The Diane Rehm show, which airs daily on most NPR stations from 9-11 a.m. CST, dedicated their entire first hour to the Mass. Senate race: Here is the link to that specific programming:

I think right now if you are in any way an "establishment" politician, you are in trouble. Doesn't matter what side of the aisle you sit on or even which state with very few exceptions. Don't expect much to change in the House as the average district loves "their guy" but wants to throw the rest of the bums out. This is true in almost every election in the last 20-30 years if not longer. If you look at polling of the very people that have the low opinion of congress right now, you find that they support their representative in almost all cases.

The fundamental mistake Obama and the Democrats made last year is the same mistake the Republicans are making now. They think folks are voting for them and in reality, they are voting against the incumbents.

Martha wasn't an incumbent.

Martha wasn't an incumbent.

No, but she had been anointed to the seat.

I say both sides should try to avoid running people that are rude and dismissive of the constituents they are asking to vote for them. That was a big factor yesterday. Not the only factor, but it did lose her some votes.

NOW we get to see just how much of a Chicago machine politics guy the Pres really is. Does he read the message and move his thinking a bit more centrist or do the REALLY dirty tricks start now. My guess is, we get to see politics that would make the original Mayor Daley proud.

Hang on tight folks, this ride is just beginning.

and it might even bring Rahm Emmanuel out of the closet...

Good call, Homer. What Massachusetts just did will have Democrats exclaiming "D'oh!" for awhile, but it will be Republicans grumbling "Why you little..." if they don't build off this momentum. For either party to let out a big "Wooo-hoo!" in November, it will take more than partisan bickering and the blame game because voters are saying "Mmm... bureaucracy," but rather... I know Obama wore it out... but voters still seek hope and change.

Hi-Diddily Ho? Okily Dokily! :D

Yep. I hope the 'Pubs gain just enough seats this year so that the Democrats know that they can't just do whatever they want, but not enough for it to really look like they've waited for the Democrats to out stink them.

Oh yeah. There's only one way to go with that cycle, and don't think for a minute they both wouldn't use it to win elections.

So then Brown is going to save the economy and we can all rest easy.

Finally.

I was really worried that even and ex-pornstar with a nice truck who whored his Daughters out on national TV couldn't save America.

He doesn't have to save the economy he just has to save us from Obama. Then and only then can we all rest easy.
