Why is everyone talking about Ryan all of a sudden? Did I miss something between "Oh, yeah... I'll be back next year for sure" to "yeah, I'm staying" just recently?

I watched the sun bowl again last night...when they ran that play to gerhart there was only 3 people on the screen all the way to the endzone...Gerhart, the left guard, who should have got an illegal man down field penalty thrown, and King..

That was the exact kind of play that always seemed to work against us in bowls of nightmares past. I was so happy to see King make that tackle.

Calhoun looked good when he got into games. I think another spring and summer will benefit. It was usually late in games so that may be why. He does look like he could be a nice powerback.

I'm anxious to see how Calhoun is introduced into the mix. Murray stated one of the reasons he stayed was because Brown is gone and now he will get more reps during games. I don't see Wilson abandoning the 2 back system. I was wondering how we got both the backs out of California.... I guess kids are starting to relize that sharing reps is the way things are in college football.

It's going that way into the NFL, as well. Even though the idea has been around a long time, when Indy won their Super Bowl, a lot was made of them using 2 backs. Now, most NFL teams use the two back system, and some successful ones (see Dallas) use 3 backs (Barber, Jones, and Choice). With all of the wear and tear that these guys go through, it does make a lot of sense to use multiple backs. That being said, I see a mixture of DM, Calhoun, even Jonathan Miller. You might even see some power situations with Millard. He has the size of an FB, the speed of an RB, and the pass catching skills of a TE.

gaylordfan1

Think they would use him as a true freshman (Millard)? I wonder what true freshmen come out and compete next season. Hurst, Jaz, Mcfarland, and R. Lewis showed it can be done. Any thoughts anyone?

BTW GF1 While Brennan IS from California,Finch is from Florida.

I Think A lot will depend on our Early games ~ If Murray takes off - has lots of long runs - TD's - pass recieving - and stays healthy..?? - Then he will be "The Main Man" -But there's a lot of talent waiting to Show off their good stuff ~~~ :) - Hopefully we will see lots of backfield action from the 2010 Sooners.....:D

You dont think that during Murrays decision to come back he asked coach Stoops how his position would be handled? Im certain that he wont receive 25-30 carries a game but if healthy im sure Stoops told him that he would get the majority of carries. Now that could be 20 for him and 15 for the other two guys but he is still "the guy" that way

SCxxSOONER
1/16/2010, 02:59 PM
i think next yr we will run the ball more and you can expect 20 carries a game from DM, prob 5 or so apiece for calhoun/miller.

Curly Bill
1/16/2010, 02:59 PM
What have we seen in Murray (durability wise) to make us think that he can handle being "the guy?"

Curly Bill
1/16/2010, 03:00 PM
No way Murray averages 20 carries a game next year.

Collier11
1/16/2010, 03:05 PM
well obviously CB he needs to stay healthy but if he avoids any injuries I have no doubt he will avg 18-25 touches a game (runs and catches). Now if in game 2 he turns his ankle or tweeks his hammy or something like that, they will undoubtedly take the load off

Curly Bill
1/16/2010, 03:07 PM
If he gets 18-25 touches a game I don't think that he will stay healthy.

1/16/2010, 03:08 PM
well thats the issue, im hoping for OU and for his career that he can do it

Curly Bill
1/16/2010, 03:08 PM
...and besides, I've already told Bob I want to see more of Calhoun and Miller and less of Murray! ;)

Collier11
1/16/2010, 03:09 PM
what about finch and clay

Curly Bill
1/16/2010, 03:12 PM
what about finch and clay

If they're ready and there's a place for em lets see em. If not they can redshirt.

I say let the best man play, and right now I think it's going to be Calhoun. With Bob's penchant for loyalty (for better or worse) I think Murray will likely get ever shot at being the man.

Collier11
1/16/2010, 03:14 PM
Lets just hope Murray is back to 08 Murray, if so we will be just fine
