Looking good for next year!

Yea I just saw it on Sportscenter. I figured he would stay because he can still accomplish a lot w/ another year. When he's healthy he's easily one of the nations best RBs.

Hopefully the o-line can develop and give him a lot more running room and improve those stats and move higher up the draft board.

Great choice. Demarco is an academic all american, so even if he misses out on the NFL, he has the smarts to start a career in something else.

The guys says he mother wants him to finish and that is way more important than football imo.

What's DeMarco's major? I knew he was academic all-american but I couldn't remember what he was studying.

That was the right move on his part.

"I won't have to share carries anymore so I will get to play a lot more than I have here and be the guy," Murray said. "My mom wanted me to walk [graduate] as well."
----

Hmmm... I agree with the Mom/graduate part, but all RBs share carries. Maybe it just means he believes he can earn a larger share. But I think he was limited more by our O-line and lack of running success than by sharing with CB. I'm sure we'll be more effective at running next season (right?).

He got really frustrated at times being pulled for CB, as most fans did as well. It's one thing when you've just taken four consecutive carries nd plowed over and in between tackles and you need a quick breather... quite another when you're trying to get into a rhythm. He just started to catch fire against Miami and OSU when he got pulled for CB... you could easily read his frustration both times. He never hated CB, nor did any of us fans... he's just saying that guys like Q, AD and AP never got dealt that hand to take a carry, sit out, block for play-action, sit out three plays... catch a swing pass, sit out.

Yeah...now we will see if he can handle a full load. I am a little concerned, because I can easily see Miller and Calhoun taking at least a few carries away.

a) Brown was nearly as good of a back.

b) Murray asked out just as often as he was taken out. You referenced the Miami game, and that was another instance where Murray asked off the field.

We need other RBs to step up as well, because every game DM's had to carry the load he's gotten dinged up.

1/15/2010, 10:55 AM
Getting in Rythem is important, especially for a guy like Demarco, you can see when he starts to make moves they generally work, but making cuts seems to take him some snaps to get comfortable for whatever reason. This year I prefered Brown, he had more patience and seemed to be the better back in between the tackles. Murray needs to be able to get in space to be the back that he is - last year in 08 he was sick before getting hurt against Mizzou.

This is a different offense than Q, AD,AP played in.....With this type of offense, its gonna be different runningbacks getting a lot of carries

So, next year we'll have Murray, Madu, Calhoun, Miller (he's still here, right?) and I know we've got the kid from Florida (actually from OK, but family had moved down there for a coupla years if I remember the story) and at least one or two other studs in this class. Who'd we have red-shirted this year? What I'm getting at is that we've got RB's stacked like cord wood. I don't see a one of 'em I don't like.
It's really time and past for OU to have a punishing ground game again. Is next year the year? Opinions on the run blocking capabilities of our prospective OL would be welcome. I totally bought into the pre-season hype on this past season's line, so my opinion is tainted.

We will have three 5-star RBs next year and two 4-stars.

5 - Star
Murray - RS Sr
Calhoun RS So
Clay - Fr

4 - Star
Miller - So
Finch - Fr

Of those guys, I think only Miller and Calhoun have the running style to be power guys.

Loaded at RB next year. Lots of good talent coming in to help the rotation. Should be good to go.

Recruitment of O-linemen is going well... stocking up the shelves again. We'll see how they gel together this spring/summer/fall.

I sure hope that at least one of 2011's stud RB's (Malcolm Brown, Aaron Green, or Herschel Sims) still would be interested in OU even though we are stacked there now.

I hope DM has a truly breakout year, I think he has the potential, now we'll see if experience, maturity--physical and mental, and health can come together for him. If it does, he could be a star on a national level.

Though I hear from some that Madu is going back to RB...

Clay is a four-star recruit on every recruiting list I've seen.

Murry was also a four-star. He started out as a five-star but ended up as a four-star about halfway through his senior season.

For some reason, and I assume that it's because of the injuries, DeMarco is perceived to be a scat back. Really in truly, though, if you watch him run, he's like a mix between AD and Reggie Bush. He can make the Bush-like moves, but he's also not afraid to put a hit on a defender. I hope he stays healthy, because if he does, he is going to make some serious cash.

stoopified
1/15/2010, 03:54 PM
I am glad Murray is coming back BUT if he thinks thatwe aren't going to play Calhoun,Miler he is dreaming.I doubt we seldom ever see a time when one back dominates carries like AD did.

For the record I can cite many occassions (including the Sun Bowl) when Beown was on a roll and was pulled for Murray. Sun Bowl rushing comparison: Brown 12c-46 yards,Murray 20c-29 yds. Not bashing Murray simply pointing out that both Brown and Murray had to share the rock and it wasn't a case of one player GETTING ROBBED in favor of the other.

BTW Murray only edds NINE TDs to reset the school record for TDs scored.Owens scored 57 in his career ,Murray has 49 heading into his senior year.

JLEW1818
