Even my detractors will agree with me on this, I am betting.

When you're up big and you put in your backup QB, you THROW THE BALL.

Texas had the following blowouts this year, but their backup QB only had 26 passing attempts going into the national title game.

9/05 Louisiana-Monroe 1-0 (0-0) W 59-20
9/12 @ Wyoming 2-0 (0-0) W 41-10
9/26 UTEP 4-0 (1-0) W 64-7
10/10 Colorado 5-0 (2-0) W 38-14
10/24 @ Missouri 7-0 (4-0) W 41-7
10/31 @ No. 14 Oklahoma State 8-0 (5-0) W 41-14
11/07 UCF 9-0 (5-0) W 35-3
11/14 @ Baylor 10-0 (6-0) W 47-14
11/21 Kansas 11-0 (7-0) W 51-20

In the 64-7 game against UTEP, Gilbert only had six passing attempts, even though the game was over by halftime.

The Missouri game was 35-7 at halftime, but Gilbert only had three passing attempts.

As a coach, it is your responsibility to look after your own team. Screw the opponent's feelings.

They were trying like crazy to get a Heisman for McCoy

I am not one of your "detractors," but since they scored less points than Bammer, then yes, they deserved to lose.

Having the backup QB pass more with the 2nd team in mop-up time would not have made any difference.

This is actually an assumption and needs no proof. Yes. Texas deserved and deserves to lose in every and all circumstances.

I fully disagree. The opposing team's defense reacts much differently than your own practice squad. And usually the opposing team keeps many of its defensive starters in the game, even in blowouts.

And if this is habit, the opposing team is expecting a pass.

There is simply no substitute for throwing against a strange defense in a real game situation.

Right - the day the horn fans stop making that silly index finger + pinkie finger hand sign is the day they stop deserving to lose (maybe).

I agree, Alabama quit competing in the 2nd half. They didn't start again until plays were needed to be made, late in the game.

I agree with the sentiment, take issue as to why. Whorns may not have won but they could have made Bama a little more anxious if a receiver other than Shipley caught what was thrown to them.

I think it had to do more with Greg Davis and Mack than Gilbert's experience. As many who watch ncaa football can tell you, the window looks big for teams that are consistently good (ou, tx, sc, fla) but are actually deceptively small. Based on schedule, seniority of qb, o-line, d playmakers, you can often pinpoint one, maybe two years where you have to do anything you can to get to the mnc. Texas' laughers early in the season were often not salted away until late (wy and colorado in particular) and Colt played like he needed all the practice he could get this year. That said, I think Davis' refusal to build a running game meant that any qb hard to work that much harder, and there was no way Gilbert throwing against the starters for bad teams would have been prepared for bama. Blame the coaches, yes, but not for denying Gilbert the chance to get "meaningful snaps" against crappy teams, imo.

But let's get back to the basic question:

The score is 50-7 and the fourth quarter is beginning. Your backup is in. Do you pass? Or do you worry about the weenies in the media think?

Brown (and by extension, whorns in general ) seem to worry more about what the media think of their weenies than whether or not their backups are in.

They deserved to lose for more reasons than this. :D

For all attemps, tries, plans, and money, Texas finished 2009 season in vain. No Heisman for 2 yrs trial for a high potential qb. No NC for all the claim and whine since last year.

Make me happy.

BTW....what you are currently experiencing is called Karma.

This is how you've been acting when evidently you were bored. Some of us are real sharp at spotting it too.

Hope that helps a bit.

Guys, you need to throw in some pics of mud wrestling or something if this back and forth continues. I've seen Pong matches more pulse-racing.
