I don't think USC gets a TV ban. Those are becoming passe. Taking a team off TV (especially USC*) messes up conference's TV contracts -- thus eroding the NCAA's product and costing everybody money. Plus, TV bans punish the opponent, who can't be televised either.

A bowl game ban, big scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions -- those should be enough to knock USC down a peg or twelve. Curious to see what is decreed regarding forfeits, vacations of wins. (Sincerely hope to heaven above that OU doesn't get dragged into any discussions about forfeited National Championships.)

*I am adding some elaboration here so folks won't neg me for making USC a special case. The reason I said "especially USC" is because a) they are one of the sports biggest names, b) they play in one of this country's biggest (maybe actually biggest) TV markets, and c) there is no NFL team there. That makes them unusually valuable to the football product, and there's no way to deny it.

And just to show that I don't want to hijack Blues' thread --

Yes, 2009 has been a VERY strange season. Are these becoming more common?

Was it two years ago that we had the upset epidemic, No 1 got beat week, and everybody got beat twice?

If unpredictability is becoming the norm, why? Greater TV coverage? Scholarship reductions? Conference realignment?

Oh, I would love to be handed a forfeited national title. Not because it meant anything, but what a great way to torment the horns.

"No, we have EIGHT national titles! We totally kicked *** in 2003."

"But... but... you didn't earn that eighth one."

"That's not what it says in the record book. Do you see the picture of the trophy sitting in our case? It's our's, baby! You can't deny the facts."

"But... but.."

The USC story aside, it was a strange year. The Mangino situation, the Urban Meyer thing here the last couple of days, and now Leach. The Blount thing with UO and the Boise game was strange. All the injuries OU had - like a bad dream really.

So long as Petey was personally named as responsible, why, I'd get a stiffy.

Does the NCAA have control over TV? thought the OU/Georgia deal fixed all that?

How can they forfeit the national title that the NCAA has no control of?
