Saw it last night. Really liked it. A lot more "Sherlock Holmes" than the trailer made it look like.

RDJ was awesome and Jude Law was a great Watson.

Iron Man 2 trailer was a sweet bonus.

Does Sherlock do any heroin in the movie?

7%?

Okay, so my mom is now boycotting the movie because she heard that Holmes and Watson are gay in it. I didn't think they'd do something like that, but can someone confirm that it isn't so?

They are most certainly not gay. Watson's got a fiancee and Holmes spends a decent amount of time trying to bang Rachel McAdams.

Implies it but doesn't actually show it.

Yeah, it was better and more true to Holmes than I expected. Not completely true, of course, because no movie Holmes has ever been perfectly true. But RDj was close enough, depicting both brilliance and a bit of pathos. The plot required some slight suspension of disblief, but on the whole I liked the movie. Jude law was a great Watson.
Holmes did not actually try to bang Irene Adler/Rachel McAdams, but she did make him "uncomfortable" in a fine heterosexual way. :D

RDJ said on Letterman that they might have been gay then, not in the movie.

Cocaine, right? I don't remember any heroin. Maybe some morphine...

I think that's right, plus an occasional trip to the local opium den and of course tons of tobacco.
As for Holmes being gay, I think the proper term for him would be "asexual." I.e., just not interested; too logical for emotion, rather like Mr. Spock.

I saw it last night. I think they did it justice. Those that never read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books or even saw the old movies probably lose a lot with this one.

Spoiler alert.

The big guy they fight is awesome IMO. The shock device is hilarious.

Just for kicks, I recently re-read "Sign of the Four." Holmes's prowess as a boxer is mentioned, as he gets reacquainted with a former prize-fighter whom he once fought in an exhibition. The fighter remarks on the effectiveness of Sherlock's right cross (or some other punch I forget). That's the story featuring the 7% solution of cocaine. It's also the story where Watson falls in love Mary Morstan, Holmes's client. It's also the story that features Watson's dog and a boat chase on the Thames.

Holmes and Watson weren't gay.

One of the leads in this movie, however...

I should re-visit the Signs book. In HS a few of us wrote our own version of Sherlock and Watson. It was a spoof and we all got "A's" for it. I found my copy of it in a box in the attic a year or so ago. Good Memories. :D

the one thing I didnt like about it is they spend so much time developing the plot it seemed like they were in a rush to finish the movie...

It also seemed a little back to the future 2ish in that it was just a set up for the next movie.

You think it was set up for a sequel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1515091/)? Next you'll be saying that they're already working on Iron Man 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1300854/).

Plots take time, action takes speed.

I saw it at the Warren. Although I thought the sets of Olde London were done very well, Guy Ritchie and Sherlock Holmes didn't set well with me.

"Oh yawn, here comes another fistfight."

I thought the previews for Ironman 2 looked pretty good...but you can tell IM3 might be a disaster....
