View Full Version : Malcom Kelly....d-bag?

No, they don't. Very few of them do it. The vast majority mention their college and I've always thought it odd that players would do that. He's the first Sooner I've ever seen do that. What the mess?

Somebody just posted a Sooner who did that a few days ago, I think they said Loadholt?

Not sure why that would make someone a d-bag anyway.

mightysooner
12/27/2009, 08:48 PM
I take it some folks here aren't aware of Kelly's attitude problems when he was here and how he left on a sour note with the program.

Yankeeracers
12/27/2009, 08:49 PM
I don't think he's a d-bag. It does show he has no loyalty to Oklahoma. Also the way he played his last year at OU and his me attitude. I also think Phil Loadholt (mentioned before) doesn't have any loyalty to the school either especially the way he threw his coaches under the bus.

Edit: He probably is a d-bag the more I think about it.

Scott D
12/27/2009, 08:49 PM
Also there are players on every team that will give the name of a JuCo or High School rather than where they played their College Ball.

mightysooner
12/27/2009, 08:51 PM
Maybe so....but Kelly is well documented for blaming the OU coaching staff for his poor 40 time in the combine and saying publicly that several members of our coaching staff "tried to hold him down"

Kelly did leave OU with a bad taste in his mouth. He got all butt hurt because he had to run his 40 in spot he did not like. I guess this is his way of saying thanks?

Anyone who does not list the place that gave them the chance to play in the NFL is disrespectful and that is d-bag activity! Kelly = OU Loadholt = OU

Longview did not give him a shot in the NFL. Phil's JuCo did not give him the shot at the NFL. They should give credit wear credit is due.

That whole OU rap went right out the window for kelly I guess!

Many years ago on Monday Night Football they would do introductions and the players would say there name and where they were from, as in hometown. One player, I don't recall who, always said his name, and then "Buck Snort, Montana". Said it with a straight face too.

“I guess I learned from it a little bit,” Kelly said. “I should have talked it over more with [director of sports enhancement Jerry Schmidt]. I’m sorry for the way I blew up.” -Malcolm Kelly

“I try to dial [controversy] down as much as I could, because I was there for three years, and there are a lot of fans there and I met a lot of people there, so I just didn’t want to burn that bridge like that,” he said. - Malcolm Kelly

This is what he said prior to this season, so I think he was beyond most of the bitterness at that point. Dunno if it returned.

I was wondering about this last year when guys wouldn't say their college and found out that the nfl tells them to say the last school they graduated from so if they never graduated from their college then they say the high school or juco they graduated from. Kelly left early and must have not got his degree or hasn't come back to finish it. AD left early too but has come back and finished his degree and that is why he can say OU.

I seriously doubt that is the case, considering a ton of guys (that didn't graduate) say they are from "The U".

More likely... they say what they want too. Everybody knows about the University Oklahoma, but to give a shout out to Longview is a little more unique and may give the homefolks something to smile about.

Consider it a nod to Longview rather than a diss to OU.

1st of all....

Who really gives a **** what anyone in the NFL thinks?

The NFL having to tell these guys how to act or what to say is what is wrong with Professional Sports. Get out of line and pull a bunch of BS just because your a Micheal Jordan or a Brett Farve...etc....

You get to ride the pine until your contract runs out. Then you're a pariah.

Be an inspiration to the kids who dream of playing someday. Finish School. Bunch of whiney **********s is what the whole mess has become IMO. Try taking your Family to an Oakland Raiders Game sometime.

I could care less about most all of it anymore. My Kids get to experience the greatness of OU Sports. That's where I try to find heroes now. AD...an inspiration. Kelly? Who gives a rat's ***. If he doesn't want to acknowledge his University....I don't have to acknowledge his existence either.

My Kids adore Sam Bradford. There are 4 Heisman Statues outside Memorial Stadium and the kids have met everyone of the four that are alive. They are my heroes and my kids heroes and fine representatives of The University of Oklahoma. Those that aren't...I could care less about.

Want an example of a guy I think deserves more recognition that Kelly?

Patrick Fletcher. A great guy and a great Representative of OU IMO.

I agree about him lacking "team" attitude, but disagree with your assessment of his blocking. He got after it in the run game. He contributed to a lot of those long runs we had in 07, that seemed to disappear in 08/09.

I think the only thing that should bother OU fans and alums is the fact that it would emit a greater sense of unity when it comes to current players and former players. You wouldn't hear a former Miami, FL player dis "Tha U." Admittedly, OU shouldn't want to do everything the "Tha U" is famous for doing but I believe there is a certain attractiveness for potential recruits/future players to be a part of that tradition or fraternity that current and former players so boisterously support and promote. It would only be a positive for the football program.

I believe THAT is the actual issue. Not whether or not everyone is getting their feelings hurt.

Travian Smith used to do it all the time.

Travian's old "Smoaky State" was a reference to football in East Texas. There's a guy in East Texas named David Smoak who does his best to rep players from there. He's got a good reputation among players from the region. Travian was a well-known star in multiple sports out in the East Texas town of Tatum before the came to OU. It's fine that he repped his home region.

All of this talk is nonsense. I've heard alot of players say their high school and a few their hometown. It doesn't matter.

Since OK has never been a state with a pro team, I have always picked my favorite pro teams as the ones with the most Sooners on their team. If freakin' Loadholt and Kelley can't even claim OU as where they are from, they aren't much good for Sooner recruiting, and...WTF, guys?

That is a super valid point and I agree! How can OU tell a kid "we produced Malcolm Kell and Phil Loadholt...NFL players!" ????

Dick move on his part!

How did Loadholt throw his coaches under the bus?

way off guys, first of all you dont know his intentions so you cant act like he did it for the sake of not wanting to rep OU. Second, this hurts recruiting ZERO. Third, as I and others have said several times, NFL players do this all the time, hell ive heard one claim a neighborhood before, it has nothing to do with anything other than wanting to give a shout out

Laughable.

Look into Phil's relationship with the OU staff. He's one of their favorites.

My guess is Bob Stoops or whoever is recruiting such an ignorant prospect might have like... game film, pictures, maybe a program or two with their names in it?

I just heard a cowboys fan complain that Roy williams holds up the hook'em sign. It really don't make a ****.

Former Longhorn Roy Williams should not be berated for holding up his gay pride symbol.

I always site my high school rather than my two degrees from OU. Oh, wait...I don't do that. Sorry. If I were from Bugtussle or Gotebo I would site that because it sounds rural cool. The only cool births we have from the Shawnee-Prague-Okemah area are, respectively, Brad Pitt, Jim Thorpe and Woody Guthrie.

You have no idea if he does or doesnt have pride with OU, all you and everyone else is referencing is because he claimed his HS which players do all the time, get over it, quit whining already.

Your right I have no idea if he does or doesn't- I didn't hear it - didn't watch the game. Was hanging out on the beach in Carlsbad CA.

didn't mean to sound like I was whining -

thats the only point, maybe he does hate OU deep down but maybe he loves OU with all his heart, who the hell knows, my only point is that this proves nothing at all
