The Chronical sports section feature story this Dec. 27th is an article ranking the "teams of the decade" in college football.

They list 6 teams with USC ranked #1. Each school's credentials are positioned with their respective ranks. The next 5, after SC are refered to as "the finalists" but are listed in descending order, #'s 2 through 6.

OU is listed as #2, followed by LSU, Florida, Texas, & Ohio State. The basis for the rankings include.....record, record vs ranked opponents, conference titles, BCS bowls & record, top 5 finishes, and a highlight which manifests itself as the # of NC's during the period.

The article does make comment of the fact that one could argue that either Florida or LSU might be considered higher than OU but they give it to the Sooners based strictly on the numbers. It goes on to say that if you rank them by "feel" you might opt for either of the SEC powers.

Texas still won only two Big XII Championships during the 00s, in 2005 and 2009. How can you be the best when you are not overall best in your own conference? Alabama has one SEC crown.

Also, if USC had to play a championship game in KC in December like OU did in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008 they might not have been number one. Because of our spectacular failures in 03, 04, 06, 07 and 08, we lose the "feel" test, but win the computer tests. But to fail in rarefied air means you are pretty darn good...but lose the feel test.

Texas goes from 5th to 1st on your list for winning 2 NC's and 2 Conference Championships. But LSU is at 6 on both lists? Seems like LSU won a couple of Championships, too. You are giving one game (Jan 7) a little too much weight.
