I think it is my Mom's fault, she left Maine on Sunday and arrived in OKC yesterday morning. We already had our 20 inches for Dec so I guess she thought she would bring you some Christmas snow?

Got up at 6 am to catch my 7:30 flight to OKC (via Dallas). Got to Dallas to find all flights to OKC canceled. They offered to fly me to Tulsa, but I didn't know if Homey would appreciate having me show up at his house unannounced, so now I'm back in Albuquerque (where it is GORGEOUS). First year I've ever not been at Mema's house for Christmas Eve, and I'm full of self pity.

It does make me really remember how many service men and women aren't spending the day with their families, either. I don't have enough words to thank those of you are are and have served.

Merry Christmas, everyone and be very safe. We fly to Corpus tomorrow to see Mr. NMS's family. There better not be a freaking blizzard in Rockport....

Here I was full of self pity because I didn't get to see snow and a once in 20 years white Christmas. You brought me back home with your thanks for our troops serving abroad that are missing their families now. God bless and be with all of them. That selfless sentiment has given me some true Christmas cheer. Thank you for sharing.

Good luck to you, nmsoonergirl, on your next travel plans and good luck to all of you traveling at this time, even if it is just down the street on some hazardous roads.

For those who don't know, I live in the Eastern Broken Arrow area...all I've seen is sleet for the last several hours. I had to go to Walmart earlier...I was in there maybe 20 minutes and by the time I came out, the roads went from wet to sleet covered and slick as snot.

I don't have pics yet, but you can bet your *** if we get the 5-9 inches of snow on top of the couple inches of sleet...my son and I will be out playing in it in the morning. Then I'll take some pics.

Well... if you have Microsoft Office then you can right click on the file, select "open with", then select Microsoft Office Picture Manager. After the file opens click on "edit picture", then locate "resize", and make it 50% of the original size and save it. If you don't have MS Office, then you can email the pic to me and I'll do it.

I am not sure what year it was but when I lived in Bella Vista/Bentonville, Arkansas we got some crazy snow one year. Did not come out of our house for almost a week. We lived on the worst kind of hill too so getting out of the drive was a bitch. It was cool living in Bella Vista because Bentonville had bus service out there for kids in school. When the roads got even remotely slick they activated limited busing and even if you did not ride the bus and I drove to high school you were not required to go in! So when most of my friends were in school I was hope getting dumber! They would get 1 day and most times I would get 2! I had a buddy who lived right down the street and he would come over and we would get hammered *** drunk and play video games!

They said earlier they cancelled nearly all flights associated with Tulsa. So that's crazy, they must have allowed one to slip on in.

I had to shovel my back porch which faces the west/northwest (around my door) about 30 min. ago because it's drifting so much we couldn't open the back door without snow pouring into the house.
Needless to say, before I finished it was already piling up again. So I'm not quite sure how much ground I made. I'm sure I'll have to do it all again in a little while or in the morning.

NBC news just said this was an all-time record for OKC. 14 inches of snow and 60+ mph winds. I knew it was the worst I've ever seen in the 40 or so years in which I actually have some recollection. I experienced some stuff like this when I was working / living in St. Louis and it reminded me why I'll never make a permanent home anywhere north of OK. I hate this crap.

HOLY CARPE DIEM. Looks like y'all are really getting pounded and powdered there at home. :( FWIW, I'd give up this unnatural & evil FL Christmas balm to be home and cold. There's just something innately WRONG about warm outside temps at the holidays. Don't get me wrong, four and a half years of being stationed in UP of Michigan taught me hatred for snow, but to be HOME in Oklahoma would be worth it, a thousandfold.

Y'all be safe, keep warm and keep postin' pictures for me.

Last night I walked to the liquor store to get some beer! When I got back a friend of my sister called the house and said she was not far from us and stuck. So we hopped in our ride and went out to help her. There was no way for her to get to Mustang so she came to stay the night. Before we could head home we had to help motorists get up the hill at 10th and May Avenue. Some people do not listen when others try to help. We did our good deed and helped some folks then came home to a nice Christmas dinner at 10pm haha.

I chilled my beers in a snow drift on my front porch and shared them with my sister's boy friend. I tried to put the moves on the friend but she is married and was having none of it. The beers were amazing though and all in all it was a fun night.

Drove to my big family get together in Hominy today from Tulsa. Normally a 50 minute drive took us an hour and 27 minutes.
The fun part was coming back and dealing with the idiots who feel the need to pass you when there's only one lane halfway drivable.

Yeah, that was a hoot. As were the tailgaters while trying to maneuver your way down an ice packed highway. Really, doosh? You are going to climb up my *** when I am driving behind somebody already and down an icy highway? I gave them the brake stomp and wave....I think that taught them.

I can't speak for OKC but from the sounds of it, they got hit harder than we did in East B.A.
I did get some pics while my son and I were out playing in the snow earlier today. I'll try to post them in a bit or tomorrow

Exactly. I've got a 3 month child riding in my backseat. I was actually cruising somewhat fine coming back on 64 at 40mph when we hit a rut on the bridge over Keystone lake and nearly went sideways.

Definitely. I think the official OKC snow measurement was over 14" and Tulsa's was only about 6". It can vary quite a bit even in one city, but it's really a mess out there in Tulsa....I can't imagine what it's like in OKC with twice as much snow.

Exactly, I tried to measure it in my backyard (I've told you before I'm out sort of near Forrest Ridge)...looked like we got about 7 or 8. But we had some huge *** drifts. There's a drift or two in my yard that are between waist deep and chest deep on me.

My parents drove out to my house late this afternoon...they live in central B.A. and I live in far East B.A....they said the roads sucked azz out my way (well basically that's what they said anyways)...the closer they got to my house the less the city/county paid attention to the roads

I think KC and OKC are probably about even in snowfall but OKC got the worst of it with higher winds. Both areas are having problems getting official totals because of the winds - KCI shows 12"+ yet there is only about 6" on the ground.

You can definitely see the wind effect at my house because the tops of the cars, deck railings, & other top surfaces have only a dusting on them yet drifts over a foot around them.

And KC has a completely new storm moving in tonight and all through Saturday.

To me the difference is that the states of Oklahoma and Missouri have such different ways of taking care of the roads. What I mean by this is that the state of Oklahoma could learn from the state of Missouri

I think it has more to do with the fact that we don't have to deal with it quite as much. Resources and budget.

I am proud to say that I've driven out of Santa Fe and Steamboat Springs on highways that were closed.:D

First, I agree about KDOT but for those that think MODOT is on the ball -- think again. There is a very visible line where KS maintenance ends and MO begins on the roads around KC.

All I know is that when I drove from OK to Mizz. for the like '06 Big 12 title game, there was an obvious difference once we crossed into Mizz. Roads are taken care of much better there in winter weather.

Just got done shoveling the drive and it was a B!!! It's still snowing but if it doesn't get any heavier should only get another inch. Hopefully it will stop tonight but forecasts are through at least noon tomorrow.

I didn't think of taking pics before shoveling but the drifts in the drive were at least 2 feet.
