Doesn't this look like an Onion headline? -- "Toby Gerhart succeeds at a position white players don't play at as much anymore."

Can't you envision a satirical article about a fictional white guy telling some inspirational story about overcoming reverse discrimination?

OK, the idea itself is borderline racist -- a white running back in a black man's position. So that makes the headline rank as strange. And then the actualy taxonomy is just amateurish -- "don't play at as much anymore." WTF?

Do you mean to say: "succeeds at a position with few white players"?

I had just followed a link from another thread to an Onion article on The Blindside movie, and then clicked into the Oklahoman sports page. For God's sake, I thought I was still in the Onion.

When I see a black kicker, I'm not exactly going to be shocked. Is color of skin really still an issue?

"The taxonomy is amateurish."

Wow.

What's wrong with that? It's one of the most craptastically-written headlines I've seen in a very long time. Shouldn't journalism students know how to write English that doesn't give intelligent readers headaches?

Is the Oklahoman the worst paper in the nation relative to its readership. I'm sure there are some small town papers that are worse, but is there any other paper that reaches as many people as the Oklahoman that sucks as bad?

When a headline in The Oklahoman DOESN'T sound like it's stolen from The Onion, drop me a line.

I too once went to an amateur taxidermist and I really wasn't please with the results.

Damned deer head began to stink after a couple of weeks.

The problem is a dangling preposition.

I would have gone with a bigger font and said, "Gerhart Succeeds Despite Whiteness."

Oklahoman headline writers don't succeed at a task dumb people don't succeed at as much ever.

It'd be way cooler if their quarterback and coach were black.

Don't let Al Sharpton, Sheila Jackson Lee or Jesse Jackson know about this, or there may be a lawsuit. Wonder what Steve Owens would think about this controversy? He'd probably laugh.

Weird headline indeed. The followup stories were pretty edgy as well...

Huh? Care to explain that?
