Stanford’s Harbaugh hires dad for Sun Bowl

EL PASO, Texas (AP)—Stanford will have a second Harbaugh on the coaching staff for the Sun Bowl.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday that he’s hired his dad, Jack, to be the interim running backs coach for the Cardinal’s first bowl game since 2001. He replaces Willie Taggart, who was hired last month as the head coach at Western Kentucky, his alma mater.

Jack Harbaugh has previously coached at Western Michigan and Western Kentucky, where he won a national championship in what was Division I-AA.

Stanford (8-4, 6-3 Pac-10) faces Oklahoma (7-6, 5-3 Big 12) on Dec. 30 in the Sun Bowl in El Paso.

They're so excited they're moving the game up one day.

Stanford can afford to do that now that they have Daddy helping. He is probably going to coach the band as well to run onto the field just in case we are down at the last second ala Texas/Nebraska so they won't put a second back on the clock.

Eh, count me weird, but I think that's great. Having your dad by your side for a game against a great opponent (maybe not our season, but certainly our tradition)...must be a pretty neat thing for the Harbaugh family. I've seen nothing but class from them.

I don't think it'll do diddly-squat for them though.......

I've seen pics on the wire of the coaches in El Paso already - are the teams already there for the bowl?

No way. It's over 2 weeks away. I would guess they would leave Christmas Day or the next day.

Must be a new trend.... Kiffin and Kiffin and now Harbaugh and Harbaugh.

Good father/son bonding time.
