FRESHMAN LB JONES LEAVES THE TEAM
True freshman linebacker Gus Jones is no longer with team, Venables said. Jones, out of Wagoner, is expected to complete his semester class work at OU, then transfer to a smaller school.
Jones spent this season redshirting.

Translation: Somehow he wasn't cutting it. Seeing how he's finishing classes, I'd say it wasn't academics.

Ok so does OU get his scholarship back? I always wondered how that worked. It would be great if we could have his scholarship for this years class, seeing as we are at 25 verbals now and are looking to add at least five more guys.

I think it's 25 per year and 85 total no matter what. So OU will get it in terms of how many total they can have on scholarship but they'll still only be able to sign 25 this year.
