I hope it wasn't a flank steak. Those things sting!

..as opposed to a tenderloin, which would just make a '"thud" sound and bruise slightly.

A bone-in ribeye or porterhouse would have knocked the guy out.

I'm thinking on their budget, maybe she just flogged him with a cube steak. It probably broke up by the time she inflicted any real damage.
