I just don't get this, from Nutt's perspective. Definitely not even a lateral career move. Guess he may just be tired of the SEC meatgrinder and wanna go try to be the big boy on the kiddie playground known as the Big 12 North.

Considering that KU is a roundball school, I think them getting a coach of Nutt's level in football would be a pretty big deal. He's never won a championship at Ole Siss or Arkie, but I still think he's a heck of a football coach.

Doesn't make sense. I think they still like Nutt at Ol Miss....

I wouldn't be surprised. His agent, Jimmy Sexton, is the best in the business at getting his clients raises. Remember, he pulled this same stunt last year by flirting with Auburn. If I'm the president or AD at Ole Miss, I call his bluff and let him leave.

The only reason that makes sense is he believes that he would have a better shot at playing for a CCG each year in the Big 12 North.

Other than getting a salary bump, his studly Jevan Sneed graduates and he no longer has his "Blind Side" buddy either (actually, he was gone last year).

So, it might be time to get a fresh start for the nutter. This year must have been a tremendous disappointment, considering all the preseason hype and beating da gatas and all last year.

Not me. Mississippi may be 49th and 50th in a lot of categories, but having lived in both states I can tell you this isn't even a contest. Kansas is flat, landlocked, and pretty much nothing to do unless you live close to KC or Wichita. At least in Mississippi you have some beautiful country to enjoy and live around, a better climate, quick access to the coast in the South and Memphis to the North, and casinos, and their women are whole lot easier on the eyes...

i can't say i'd rather be in Kansas than most places though. still, i haven't spent a whole lotta time in Mississippi, but i haven't heard good things

I'm not gonna sit here and defend Mississippi as some great place that it's not, but I'd live there ten times to sunday before I'd go live in the sunflower state again.

sozo,

You're right. Even though I think he's a solid football coach, I've never understood the fascination with him that a lot of pundits seem to have. In all his years at Arkansas and now at Ole Miss, he's never won a championship and also has a lot of baggage. That being said, though, I still think he'd be a 'homerun' hire for Kansas.

Actually, KU hiring him would be big for the North. They need it. He can recruit Arkie and Mizz, so that's a start.

3 reasons to leave Ol' Pi$$ for KU:

Bama
LSU
SEC East opponent in the SEC CCG, should Ol Pi$$ EVER make it that far

3 reasons to like Kansas more than Ol Pi$$:

Nutt played ball in the Big 8
Big XII north is much weaker than SEC West
Doesn't have to endure Fayetteville every other year

Kansas is flat? West of I-35 east - north and south has hills and forests.

I live in Wichita and HATE IT, I have a neice that lives in Mississippi so lots of family visits and it sucks more than ICT.

Larry is not really a part of Kansas...lol.

It's interesting, people seem to think college coaches are so worried about the attractions of their locales. Do head coaches really have that much time for stuff other than coaching? If he's a decent family man, he wants a safe clean town with good schools. That's what it probably amounts to...
WTF is so great about the MS coast? It's climate is crack of the *** humid and hot - gambling boats? Big flippin whoop! Yay white trash! Just about the only time a coach has spare is for family and maybe a round on the golf course. Anything else is a place to get into trouble.

The MS gulf coast is actually atrocious, but it is in close vicinity to the Alabama and Florida pristine white sand gulf coast beaches...

Y'all can have Kansas. I lived there for 10 yrs and would never go back....

Most of Kansas is flat farmland with virtually no trees or even hills to speak of. I know because I lived there in the 70s and 80s.

Nutt likes KU for these reasons:
1. A higher probablility in chance to get Big 12 North Championship and to play for Big 12 championship.
2. A chance to get out of SEC and still in some big conference.
3. A chance to kick TExass'saaasss

And many other secret reasons.

Once again, that point is flippin ridiculous, a head coach doesn't have a couple of hours to drive to a nice beach. If he has that time, he's going to get on a plane and fly to a real spot. Do you really think Nick is loading up the car and heading down to Destin? If you do, I have some sweet ocean front property to sell you.

I live in Northwest Arkansas, work at a local tv station, and am married to a Razorback fan. That said, Nutt did this in '03 by flirting with Nebraska in order to get more money at Arkansas, knowing that he wasn't going to have many quality players much longer. He had a couple of diamonds in the rough with McFadden and Jones. Other than that, the man is a horrible recruiter and pretty crappy all-around coach with his own players. I imagine he knows this may be his last decent year, and he's vying for more money again.

Which reminds me of a joke...

A man goes to his oncologist and gets some very bad news. "I'm afraid you only have 6 months to live". The man is devastated. He asks his doctor, "what should I do with my time I have left, Doc?" "Get married and move to Kansas. It'll be the longest six months of your life".

Why? More importantly why would KU be interested in him? That would be like hiring Gary Gibbs.

Kansas would be smart to go after Turner Gill if he's interested. Houston Nutt's teams only do well when no one expects anything of them. When they do get preseason hype, they collapse. Plus he would pull this crap every year to try and get a raise, when he sure as hell doesn't deserve it.
