Don't think any "so-called journalists" are running that particular site. Real journalists, as opposed to "so-called journalists," would take the time to try to substantiate.

you'd be surprised how often false rumors have been put out there that have caught them with their pants down. To be fair, it's usually related to professional sports trade rumors but it happens.

Being in the business (newspaper) I wouldn't be surprised - and thank god it hasn't happened where I work, but I've seen it many times. I do think the sport trades are more prone to publish them.
