Didn't see it posted here, but it just posted by SoonerSports on FB...

Congratulations to Trent Williams, OU's 149th All-American. Williams achieved that honor today when he was named to the American Football Coaches' Association 2009 All-America Team. http://www.soonersports.com/sports

Good to hear!

The choosing of linemen is always a complete guessing game for the voters.

He was better at RT than at LT IMO.

That's pretty much a pre-season award. The guy didn't do nearly as well as he should have on the left side.

Granted, he didn't have Gresham's receiving presence or Eldridge helping him out on the strong side like Phil had. That usually takes a lot of heat off of the anchoring lineman. At least one blitzer will stay back with #18 out there. In the end, that may be the story of why the young line was so bad is without JG, BYU, Miami and Texas all brought extra heat on the QB daring us to utilize ineffective tight ends.

Yeah, the voting was clearly not based on his performance this season. Not all his fault since he had to switch to the toughest position on the line. I'm happy for him and hope his draft stock didn't slip too much, but I find this surprising.

I would venture to say Eldridge lined up next to Trent a lot more in 08, than Phil. Right-handed team.

The fact that we had a lineman win a postseason award tells me that these people do not watch any college football whatsoever.

Well, the fact that Eldridge didn't win of the linemen we had is what should prove that...

Congrats to him but not sure if he really earned it. How was Gerald McCoy not a 1st teamer?

From the AFCA website

Top Team: Oklahoma has had the most players named to the AFCA Coaches’ All-America Team. The Sooners have been represented 60 times by 52 players on the AFCA team. They are followed by Ohio State (56/42); Notre Dame (56/49); Michigan (54/48); Southern California (54/47); Nebraska (49/44) and Texas (45/39).

He may not deserve it, but I'm glad he got it. We need to keep our lead on all those other jerkoff teams.

We deserve 1 or 2 on defense...

Eldridge was busy doing the left guard's job in 2009 since nobody else wanted to. Don't forget Duke into that whole equation. He was a two-time AA for what it's worth.

Duke's AA status was based a little more on name recognition than merit, at least in my opinion. Loadholt, Cooper, and Williams were our best linemen in 08. He was all-conference good, perhaps, but not AA good.
