December 3, 1979: Last Pacer is produced

30 years ago today, the last Pacer is produced by the American Motor Company. The bubble-topped Pacer was a reasonably popular economy car, though its Jetsons-styled body attracted flack from car critics and stand-up comedians alike.

More recently, the Pacer gained attention as the mighty roadmobile piloted by Garth of Wayne's World.

We grandkids lobbied hard for grandma to buy a Pacer and shed her old push-button gear Dodge Dart. She would not be moved.

Toss up between the Gremlin and Pacer for ugliest car ever. What was that station wagon that was jacked up and had wood paneling that they made?

I can't remember if it was an old Woody or a 60's Station Wagon with the wood sides....but I seem to remember it was a Woody that sat on top the bar at the Honolulu Hard Rock Bar. It had Elvis plates and some surf boards hanging out the back I believe. I've ridden in one that was restored. Very cool and something that should be in a Museum if someone had one. Just an awesome vehicle...
