My wife has played flute for 35 years, and has a silver flute that is 29 years old. Next to her family, it is her prized possession. She takes very good care of it, but 29 years leaves a little wear and tear on the pads and corks. She took it to McGuire Music Repair in Tulsa, and the story on how the store was established is very interesting:
With humble beginnings in 1962, Irvin Mcguire saw a unique opportunity to provide a necessary trade without compromising customer service values. Self taught, Irvine began Mcguire Music with no tools or skill just an idea and a commitment to hard work. Having proudly served his country in the United States Airforce, Irvine called upon his military background to recruit his first clients. He quickly gained high regards for his work and began repairing and servicing instruments for all of the different military branches.
With service demands growing, Irvine called upon his two sons to help manage the workload. Stephen, also a Veteran and solid clarinet player, attended the United States Armed Forces School of Music, in Norfolk VA. While matriculating there, Stephen honed his skills to surpass that of his fathers. Being a musician himself, Stephen has a greater understanding of what each individual customer expects for their instrument.
The last addition to their technician family came in 1990 when they relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Carl, an accomplished oboe player and veteran, joined his father and brother to further diversify their qualification for musical instrument repair. Carl never lets an instrument leave the front doors until it is in perfect, proper working order.
Mcguire Music provides instrument repair to the greater Oklahoma as well as on the world wide web. They buy, sell and trade all varieties of instruments. The Mcguire music repairs woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion. They have forty years of experience and are family owned and operated. I don't want to make this sound like a commercial but they treated her very nice.
