I thought I'd post this so everyone could read it rather than replying to everyone separately.

Apologies for my absence. I was laid off abruptly but not unexpectedly in July. Prior to that, my apartment had been broken into any my computer stolen, and I hadn't gotten around to getting one because, hey, I could always use the one at work, right? Of course, after I lost my job, I didn't really want to spend available cash on a computer. I could use computers at the library to search for a job and stuff, but I didn't really have the time to come around to sites like these.

The job market in NYC sucks, around 13% unemployment. The legal market is particularly bad, with firms laying people off left and right, and some firms paying people not to come to work simply to avoid layoffs. I'm still not working and times are getting pretty tough for me, but I finally decided to spring for a computer, so I'll probably be around more.

I know this isn't the football board, but sorry about your disappointing season. On the upside, a win against us would keep us out of the Fiesta in the likely event that Texas makes the BCS Championship Game, so at least that would be something for y'all. ;)

If you're licensed in Oklahoma, you could always come back here. Oklahoma firms are still hiring. As you may know, firms here generally pay less than in NYC, but the cost of living and taxes are dramatically lower here so it ends up being a wash.

I had a similarly eventful year and took about 9 months off the board. First I got depressed from the Fla game, then my daughter was born in Italy, then I dropped my computer and couldn't afford a replacement.

Next, I came real close to getting laid off earlier this year (we laid off four and my evil boss let me know that she was coming for me next). I was very worried I'd have to send wife/daughter back to Italy where they have medical insurance.

Then suddenly and out of the blue, my dream job came through.

So good things can happen.

Had to change my handle, though. I used to be KingBarry.

Hey, try applying in DC. Plenty of lawyers and one of the best economies in the country. Passing out relief money creates jobs.
