Sarah Palin’s book tour to stop in Norman
BY JANE GLENN CANNON
Published: November 18, 2009

NORMAN — Sarah Palin’s national book tour will include a stop at Hastings Books, 2300 W Main St., in Norman on Dec. 3.

The former vice presidential hopeful and former governor of Alaska will sign copies of her newly released memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life,” at 7 p.m., store manager Rob Wood said.

"This is definitely the biggest thing we’ve ever had happen,” Wood said. "I’m excited but nervous. We expect a lot of people will be here for it.”

Palin will sign books purchased at Hastings.

Customers can buy books in advance and then bring them to be signed as long as they show a receipt, Wood said.

Signings will be limited to two books per customer, he said.

The 413-page memoir with 16 color photos published by Harper-Collins hit the stands Tuesday.

Probably a lot fewer than the number of obsessed right-wing moonbats who worship her for her unabashed ignorance.

I tell ya, every time I see today's faces of conservatism, I lament the devoluton of a once great and principled movement.

It used to be the liberal democrats that couldn't find anyone worthy enough to run and the GOP won by default.

Now we have Palin running around. It's amazing. I have friends that worship Palin and for the life of me I can't figure it out.

My only issue with this whole deal is the difference in the level of hatred for each of the folks you mentioned. I dislike Brack for multiple reasons. He spends money like a thousand drunken sailors. You know, the same thing everybody hated GWB for? He's wishy-washy. He is not a strong leader. He cowtows to our enemies. He apologizes for **** I'm damn proud of. And those of us who dislike Brack aren't foaming at the mouth, spittle flying, raving lunatics like the Palin haters are.

I mean for chrissakes, WTF has Palin done to get all the haters this wound up? Seriously, I see some of the freaks on this board sounding like complete ****ing idiots with their blind hatred of her. I have specific problems, and whoever happens to fill those roles gets railed on. Sarah Palin isn't a topic of my vitriol because she's a Republican, or a Christian, or a woman.. well, maybe a little bit because she's a woman.. or a G.I.r.n.F. My problem is, as "yermom" stated, one, the fact that our country has gotten to the point where it thinks she is a viable candidate for anything.

Just because she's just a prettier, juggier version of the "aw shucks" good ol' boy candidates we have elected throughout our country's history does not qualify her for leadership and responsibility.

In just two years time, her approval rating as the Gov. of Alaska dropped from 93% to 54%. This happened during her tour with McCain, primarily. I don't think it had to do so much with her leaving, seeing as it has already dropped to 69% before she was even announced, as it did with the person that she became when given the opportunity to "be herself" on a grander scale.

Anyway, if you're keeping score, that's a gubernatorial job that she quit on... the same way she quit during her second term on the Wasilla city council...

- her opposition of same-sex marriage..
- her position on abortion..
- her opposition of the American Clean Energy and Security Act
- her opposition of Stem Cell research
- her opposition of the decriminalization of marijuana

ALL of those, in one way or another (except maybe the Clean Energy Act thing...) can be traced back to her religious beliefs. Beliefs she has said, repeatedly, would not affect her political policies.

And that's before I get into sh*t like the fact that a town slightly larger than my own home town of Hugo was able to secure $27 million worth of federal earmarks over a four-year period... BEFORE that sort of thing...

Don't assume it's because I'm liberal, and therefore, hate whatever the Dem Machine tells me to hate. Far from it. Not all anti-Obama folk can say the same thing.

Why does she have to try to impress people with how "tough," how "maverick" she is? Why can't she just present herself as an educated, capable individual? Because she can't, that's why? I've no doubt she's engaging. I've no doubt she's pleasant on the eyes... I've also no doubt that she's got a lot more style than substance; a lot more media than mass, if ya know what I mean... that "Fargo," "yeah, sure, you betcha" sh*t only takes you so far. Eventually you have to move past "being able to see Russia from your backyard" and start trying to run important things; not just deciding on whatever is laid in front of you.

She's proactive, which is usually a positive, but, when combined with poorly researched and thought-out plans, it's far from a positive. I guess that coming across as "intelligent," and "prepared" wouldn't keep with the "maverick" image she's painted of herself, though.

I'm scared to read her book. I'm afraid it'll make me think Paris Hilton took office.

THAT is my problem with her...

Are you drunk? Barack Obama was a SENATOR for the United States longer than Sarah Palin was a mere governor for her "state." Nobody ever got elected senator because somebody wanted to bang them. Governor? Eh...

And, as for the whole "running a town and a state" she quit on both of them at various points throughout her career. I'm not sure she gets full credit for "running a state" unless you qualify through the use of modifiers, like "running AWAY FROM a state." And, just keeping it governor for a second, if you could pick one state (sorry, Frozen) between Alaska and Illinois to be the governor of, which one would you pick? EXACTLY! Alaska, 'cause it's a lot less f*cking work.

He was also Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs while Palin was being a "self-described 'soccer mom' with kids..." He's got a BIT more experience than she does... he did it for over a year. Does that count as "accomplishing anything?"

You've fallen for the "aw shucks" charm of the Republican party. It used to be the other way around... Compared to Bush, Clinton was the "aw shucks" guy, but Clinton was also a f*cking Rhodes Scholar. He seemed like a bit of a hillbilly 'cause of his Arkansas accent, and the fact that he was much younger than Bush Senior. Speaking of Bush, (Bushi? Bushen?) Dubya was an admitted "average student." It's one thing to come across as unintelligent and uncomposed. It's another thing to actually BE unintelligent and to completely lack composure.

Palin? She went to college on a beauty pageant scholarship, and graduated in five and a half years (I, personally, am not judging her...) with a degree in communications, because she wanted to be a sportscaster.

...because she wanted to be on T.V.

She FELL into that whole "running the state" thing, and, when she parleyed her new-found fame into book deals, etc.. she decided that she was done with the whole "politics" thing. She found something else to get herself on television. Congrats, really.

I'd rather see her as a sportscaster. I don't quite make crazy gravy on my zipper at the sight of her glasses like some of the sex-starved geeks around here, but I'd rather see her than the Sally Struthers-lookalike, Shelly Smith.

the_ouskull

Post Script -- The thing is, BOTH sides (Dems and Repubs) are crooks, and both sides are criminals, and the best candidates rarely make it to the party's nomination, because the stupid people - the ones that feel like "maybe Palin is the answer," are the ones with all the f*cking money. If you REALLY want to see the country change, vote for Ron Paul. Get HIIM elected. Then we'll see "of the people, for the people, and by the people" back where they belong.

What a lovely sentiment. Of course, there are just as many men unable to accomplish any more than being pres of their homeowners' association...which, by the way, is not a job to denigrate (or "put down," in simpler, easier terms for you to understand). A) I am a woman, B) not a homeowners' association president, nor do I care to be one, C) I'm a Democrat. However, I don't dislike Sarah Palin because of her politics even though they are very different from mine. I really don't dislike her, period. She has been successful, but no more successful than many other women, who didn't quit their jobs when the going got rough or the grass looked a little greener on the other side.
I disliked her selection as McCain's running mate because it seemed to me that he was trying to hook in the voters unhappy that Hillary wasn't the Democratic nominee. He and his team obviously didn't vet her; it's not really her fault she came across in interviews as unprepared. She probably wasn't unprepared; she just doesn't appear to have the intellectual capacity to answer questions about foreign policy, etc.
I don't dislike Sarah Palin. I just dislike the sheep who believe she is the savior of the Republican Party. If she is, the party is in far worse shape than its leaders are willing to admit. Of course, these are the same people who worshiped W, and now the only way they'll speak his name is under their breath.

Let's start with: the Federal Reserve Notes in your pocket stop working, since it's now a debt instrument of an entity that would no longer exist. But hey, many Paul supporters burn $1 bills in protest. I personally would like to see them really put their money where their mouth is and burn ALL of their money instead.
