With the season winding down, have you heard anything new on our underclassmen and where they might go in the draft? Below is merely my opinion without any actual info

Beal- I dont remember too many DE's going pro early
Murray- I think he needs another year to prove he can stay healthy and get his explosiveness back
Franks- I dont see any way he would go pro
Lewis- He needs to get stronger IMHO

Basically from what I see I think Beal would be the only possibility considering that I assume that Mccoy is gone

Beal - I don't see what Beal has left to prove and everyone wants a pass rusher - and he is much more than a pass rush specialist.
DM - backs generally don't last long in the NFL and they always want fresh legs. Another year in college is another year of wear. And DM can run routes and catch the ball - big plus. I hope he comes back, but I just have a feeling...
Franks - no opinion
Lewis - not ready

The only underclassmen I think will take a chance at the draft is T. Lewis. I don't think he is ready, he is having a good year but still nothing speacial. He has the potential to set some records here at OU if he stays. I did hear that money is an issue with his family and that it may be an option to leave early... but thats only hear say and nothing confirmed.
Franks is solid and getting better, but I think he needs his last year to make a name for himself.
Murray said in his preseason interview that he will return for his final year at OU... he said somthing along the lines of wanting to be the best back OU has ever seen.

Travis Lewis has seen a major drop off from last year. I'm disappointed in his play. He seems to be missing tackles or trying to arm tackle a lot of guys.

I'm amazed a lot of people are talking about Travis Lewis leaving. He's done a whole lot of nothing this year.

Lewis and Franks are gone. They've said from day one that as soon as they can go they will. I think it's a mistake, because Franks has only been OK... Lewis has been a disappointment this year. He makes some plays, but EVERYONE in the WLB makes plays in our D.

Beal- Right now, he's a tweener, probably looking like an outside lb'r in a 3-4 set...I would say he comes back..If he left, depending on workouts, i would say 2nd round late....of course that would change with a fast 40 and good shuttles

Murray- I would say there are least 8-10 runningbacks better than DM....Once again another year that shows when he carries the load, he has to sit with injuries afterwards...he has a season high carries against Baylor(24) then is hurt against Texas the next week and then has to sit out the next week again against Kansas.... "injury prone"...If someone says we'll draft you in the middle rounds, he should go, because I dont see his stock improving any..

Franks- Jackson has shown to be the better NFL prospect of the 2 IMO....He should return..Franks loses concentration too much during the games...

Travis Lewis- IMO, Lewis hasn't dropped off, he's been exposed...all you have to do is put a helmet on him and he's frozen..but still, a lof the teams like his speed and think they can develop him into a pretty good lb...I would say early 3rd and sliding..

Good times might boost him way up but if he gets a 2nd or 3rd rd grade prior to declaring you have to think he would come back

So if he is not better than middle round and he can come back and cement his legacy at OU with a big yr, what would he choose? I hope he comes back, has a huge yr and makes more money

Franks- Jackson has shown to be the better NFL prospect of the 2 IMO....He should return..Franks loses concentration too much during the games...

surely he wouldnt go even though he wants the money without a 1st or 2nd rd gaurantee?

Plus he is only a soph, coming back for a jr year and playing with Reynolds again would help him, its not like he would be exposed with no talent around him

I would say they all need to come back, but Murray hasn't had a healthy season yet...I don't think he is capable of it myself...

Collier11
11/16/2009, 01:29 PM
well remember Meachum at Tenn, wasnt he hurt for 2 straight yrs, had a huge JR year, and got a 1st round contract? I hope that happens to Muray, we will have to see

Meachem played in 11 games as a fresh. and 13 as a soph...He wasnt a full time starter those 2 years though

Hmmm, I thought he was hurt alot, guess I was wrong. Maybe he just had a breakout yr then?

11/16/2009, 02:00 PM
yeah..he came in and hurt his knee so he redshirted his freshman year...he played a lot but didnt catch much..The quarterback situation wasn't good....

His junior year, he blew it up though...they threw the ball a bit more I think....

Anyway, the odds of DM making it through a season healthy aren't very good...

I'm telling you, Franks is gone if he hears any kind of good news. Beal is a 5 flat kind of runner, though his shuttles may be better... Either way, he just doesn't have NFL written all over him.

Neither corner played well, but Franks really showed why he isn't ready...just too many mental lapses

Couple more questions for ya broseph.

1) Does English project at all as a LB? I have to think he is way too small to be an NFL DE?

2) Is Eldridge someone you could see going higher than we might think due to his versatility ala Chester(atleast that was a surprise to me, maybe not you)?

3) Barring him going out and running a 5.0 or something like that, is Gresh still considered 1st round?

4) Does Brown have an NFL future at all?

5) After a full season of really good play, what are you hearing about Bjack now? My guess would be 4th but merely a guess?

6) If, and I realize it is a big IF, but if Grangers back tests out ok will he be drafted or is he too big of a risk?

7) Does Reynolds have any shot at all to make a team?

I think that is all for now, ill buy you a beer next time I see you in exchange for your knowledge ;)

Kiper loved Chris Brown at the beginning of the season. I don't know about now, but I would think he has a chance in the NFL just because he can get the tough yards.

Chris has been stymied on a number of goal line stands, to me that doesnt register as "getting the tough yards".

English was hearing/expecting 4th round or lower. Now with the surgery he will miss this year's combine. Not looking good for him. Great Christian guy from what I understand.

1. English is too small for DE, and probably too slow for LB..But LB is where he would get a shot....and another guy who can't stay healthy.. I don't see him being drafted

2. Eldridge's size keeps him from going....He has a different frame than Chester, so I don't think he could grow into a 305 lb OL.....I really think if he pursues football, it would be in the CFL or Arena(do they still have that?)

If a team brought him on as a blocking fullback, H back type after the draft to give him a shot, I wouldnt be surprised I guess.

3. Gresham is still a 1st round pick...This injury hasn't done much to his status as his top TE competitor(the kid from Arizona) is returning back to school after injuring his back early in the year..

4. If you are going to be an NFL back, you have to be able to make your own plays. I personally would like to see him the post season bowl games and workouts before I say..Right now I doubt it.

5. Earlier than than that for Jackson. If he truly is 6'1 200lbs, I would say possible 2nd round, even better if he runs a good 40 time.

6. Granger is a sad story..I had 3 different guys tell me they thought he would be a top 15 pick a couple of seasons ago...I think Granger is done with football.

7. He'll get a camp invite from somebody...I've heard from a few folks that they absolutely love RR, but he is just too slow, banged up, yada yada...I don't think he'll make a team....When I've talked with scouts, they love to talk about him, the what ifs......

Thats surprising to me, not because I know so much about the draft process but just cus Eldridge is a football player, I thought he might have a shot

Hey C11, I've got a friend who just submitted this to the Eagles about Reynolds...

Oklahoma MLB Ryan Reynolds has lost his appeal to the NCAA for a hardship waiver that would have given him an extra year of eligibility because of past injuries. Reynolds tore ACLs in both the 2006 and 2008 seasons and missed time in 2007 with a neck injury. Prior to a very disappointing run of serious injuries and the 3 resulting injuries the 6'1 1/8 228 'Mike' LB ran in the mid to high 4.6 range and could have gone as early as the 2nd 1/2 of the 3rd round, he's now a late rounder at best, but if you can afford to park him for a year and see if he can be 100% healthy you might have something.

Talking to people I know Dwyer and Damien Williams are who people are most high on that list.

I hope Devine makes it. He's one of my favorite players. Aso about Beal I was kinda surprised that he would be back because I thought that he had all the tools to succeed in the NFL. He seemed to have that quick first step off the line and could be a really good pass rusher

Im frickin tired so i'll add what I know off the top of my head

If Dwyer runs what some say he can do(4.4ish) He is a legit 1st rounder early

Best is 1st round talent...maybe 2nd round body

Max Hall....late pick up, possible UDFA

LaFevour...athletic, strong arm but a way funky release...late 5-7 project pick

Juice Williams...No
