Has there been another year where there have been this many undefeated teams at this point of the season?

Out of those 6, only 2 play each other. So it's possible we could go into the last BCS Standings with as many as 5 teams sitting unscathed.

Crazy.

Better get the ear plugs now, because Boise St, Cinn, and TCU are going to be calling for a playoff.

I'm thinking it's will be Alabama and Texas in the MNC.

That's what happens when the talking heads lobby to take out Strength of Schedule. Now they'll say the BCS is busted again.

If I were a sports gambler and TCU played Texas on a neutral field with half the stadium TCU and half Texas (like the RRSO), I would not touch that game with a ten foot pole.

This reminded me of the record for 10 win seasons. You guys have the most with 31, we now have 30. Yet another factoid that shows the elite status of both of our programs. Quite an accomplishment for both universities considering the competition in our two leagues over the years and how few 10 win seasons MOST programs have.

Though there does seem to be a logjam of undefeateds near the top of the polls this year, I think the two love childs of the media, Boise and Cincy, need to remember a few things--they don't play in elite conferences and face the week in and week out grind that the Texases, OU's, and Bamas of the world do. Further, the case for Bama this season(if we win out)--

Only team to beat two top 10 teams and four in the top 30.

I think Cinci and TCU are legitimat this year as compared to some teams rated this high in the last few years like Hawaii etc.

Cinci is a big east school and will have to get by a top 10 Pitt team next weekend. Bosie is good but, after the Tulsa game I am pretty sure they would get spanked by an elite D.

After Utah jumped Bama last year those teams have a gripe... but their grind is nothing like the SEC in terms of physical toll...

Well, if Texas drops a game we could see TCU vs. the SEC champ for the title.

If they don't bring their A game, Nebraska could pull that off int he Big XII championship...

i think Cinci might get the nod over TCU if that happens

Maybe, but TCU might be a little better Cinci.

A playoff? That would be just down right turribal.

I wasn't around but in 1973 before bowls there were SIX:

Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan

FIVE finished unbeaten. Bama won UPI title before bowl loss to Notre Dame for the AP title.

You would think that college football fans would have blown their brains out over the teams not having it settled on the field. How did college football survive such controversy?

Wasn't USC also unbeaten? I believe their only blemish was a tie against one OKLAHOMA SOONERS team playing their second game under one BARRY SWITZER. Consequently, that tie was our only blemish, as well, and we didn't have to go to a bowl due to probation. I guess I could look this up myself, but I thought USC also won or shared the national championship that year?

And how could Ohio State AND Michigan both be undefeated? They play every year, even back then as best as I recall.

(On a personal note, although I had been to games at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, that 1973 game in the Colisseum was my first Sooner road game. I got to miss a day of second grade for it!)

USC finished 9-2-1 in 1973.

Undefeated teams ranked in the final AP poll:

#1 Notre Dame (11-0-0)- AP Champions
#2 Ohio State (10-0-1)
#3 Oklahoma (10-0-1)
#5 Penn State (12-0-0)
#6 Michigan (10-0-1)
#15 Miami, OH (11-0-0)

Cincinnati plays in the Big East which is a BCS conference.

I BELIEVE 2004 had 5 teams go unscathed at the time of the final BCS rankings. USC, us, Auburn, Utah, and Boise State, with four teams undefeated after TGWWDNSO.

#15 Miami, OH (11-0-0)

I doubt Miami, OH played anyone but 15th after an undefeated season....

This year nobody has been too dominant that's why. Teams ppl expected to be better than they are aren't due to various reason.

That is true, which leads me to this question--why should they complain at all?

IMO TCU has been dominant and should be ranked over saxet because of the road win they have. Clemson Virginia and BYU?

Ohio State and Michigan tied each other in 1973 at 10-10.

Whether you are 10-0-1 or 10-0-0 both mean undefeated.

Simple; they just let everyone "claim" to be the champion. That's why you see head-scratching bullsh*t like "Pittsburgh Panthers - 9 Time National Champions". It's like Special Olympics - everyone's a champion!!

that doesn't mean they are equivalent for rankings though

Yermom, that is also a valid point.

Examples include 1979 when Alabama won the national title going 12-0-0 and USC finishing #2 with an 11-0-1 record.

Penn State finishing 12-0-0 in 1982 and SMU finishing #2 at 11-0-1.

Obviously ties are taken into account but I throw them out on the basis of them not being a win or a loss.

Now, 1966 is a bit different.

Notre Dame played for the TIE and kept the #1 ranking in both polls as both MSU and ND finished 9-0-1. Alabama at 11-0-0 was left out.

Auburn is thanking their lucky stars that they didn't play in TGWWDNSO, they would be not speaking of it either.

Yep, and as a result, Auburn went 13-0 with no MNC. Congrats, Tuberville, you're now as good as Terry Bowden. ;)

Oh heavens, how did the sport ever survive such a calamity?
