View Full Version : Thus, the Legend of Patty O'Hara has begun...

I know that so far he has only kicked an extra point, but Patty O'Hara is going to be the second coming of Tim Duncan/Garrett Hartley. He has a lucky name (which is what you want in a kicker) and he can't be worse than Jimmy or Tress. Luck be with you Patty.

Tress Way is a great punter. He shouldn't be expected to do all of the footwork out there. By all means give O'Hara the FG's.

As for Jimmy Stevens... well, a free education is definitely not worthless.

How many kickers do we have on the roster? Way, Stevens, Moreland (Kickoff specialist), and now O'hara. Am I missing anyone?

BTW: I'm all for anyone who hits 62 yarders in warm ups. Not too shabby.

We've needed 40 yard kickers more than 62 yard kickers this season. Maybe we should stop trying to push the ball once we get into field goal range so that we don't get too close to the goal and out of field goal range, hmm?

Sounds like a plan. If the O-line would quit getting penalized every time we cross the 30, it would help that situation. Didn't matter tonight though.

What are the odds that we beat Tech on an O'Hara 40+ yard FG as time expires? As odd as this season has been, I wouldn't even be surprised.

This wouldn't be the first time this has happened the last couple of years. Tech did it last year, and FLA did it this year. With the form O'Hara had on those warm up kicks, he reminds me of the kid Sturgis with FLA.

Here's a story in the Tulsa World:

NORMAN — For one Sooner, Saturday's 65-10 victory over Texas A&M was a dream come true.

Patrick O'Hara, a walk-on kicker at the University of Oklahoma, had never played in a football game before. Before last February, he'd never even kicked a football. But the longtime competitive soccer player saw the Sooners' deficiencies, made a home video with his twin brother, transferred from regular student life at tiny Washburn College in Kansas and has become OU's latest placekicker.

"Paddy did a nice job," OU coach Bob Stoops said.

When Jimmy Stevens missed another PAT and Tress Way missed another field goal, Stoops grabbed O'Hara, a sophomore, who made two PATs and a 27-yard field goal. Afterward, O'Hara got a game ball.

He grew up playing soccer in Topeka, Kan., but now may be the Sooners' kicker of the future — or, at least, the present.

"I figured, why not go chase your dream?" O'Hara said. ""If you think you can do it, then go do it."

And btw, it seems we should be calling the kid "Paddy"

OMG, what a great story!!! I didn't know he was a walkon, thats fantabulous!! He could be our own version of "Rudy"--except he's good. I hope he continues to kick ***, can you imagine how his heart must have been pounding when Bob told him to get out there and kick??? I hope his parents were there. He showed some calm under pressure, always a good quality in a kicker!!! GO PADDY-BOY!!!!!!

So now we have 2 kickers on scholly that may be beat out by a walk on? THIS is why you don't ever give a scholly to a kicker; there are plenty of them out there willing to walk on and if they are good enough reward them with a scholly somewhere down the road; 2 wasted scholly's that could be used on linemen

That should be Washburn University of Topeka. It stopped being called Washburn College around 1941. WU's other tie to OU is that Coach Bennie Owen once coached there before he came to Norman. That plus WU beat OU in football in 1906 or 1907 or somewhere back there.

And that is our sports trivia lesson of the day.

P.S. Way to go Patrick/Paddy.

I remember BS talking about how Easley got sick towards the beginning of the season and wasnt up to par to start. I saw him last year at the Norman North/Norman HS game and was impressed. On kick offs he was kicking them through the opposite end uprights. I thought he had a real strong leg for his age.
