David is the man. Also...I think he's a better example of a man who stands by his word. Not that Roger didn't...but David was excused from two years of his Navy commitment and still continued in the reserves. David was a guaranteed NBA Superstar where Staubach was a decent 10th round draft pick that had a spectacular career in the NFL.

Edge to Robinson IMO.

Also...David isn't as old as Staubach...I think he'll continue to be a better role model than Roger. To me...as Roger has gotten older....he's kind of become a doosh.

Ummm - Staubach was not excused from his committment and didn't ask to be.
Robinson caused the military to change the rules. Actually, there were other factors pushing for a change, but it was when Robinson came along that the rule was changed.
It used to be that 6'7" was the maximum height for anyone at any U.S. Military Academy. When Robinson expressed a desire to play for Navy, that changed.

Roger being a doosh is really more what swayed me to go with David.

The Admiral by a mile. He is a truly great human being and did numerous wonderful things for the city of San Antonio once he landed there. He's a hero of mine, really.

Robinson was 6'7" when he entered the Naval Academy. He grew to 7'1" while already in the academy. Once in, they do not kick you out for growing past the maximum height. (BTW, the max height is now 6'8".)

He also wasn't highly recruited or anything so they wouldn't have gone out of their way on changing the rules just for him... definitely nothing more than your average basketball or football recruit.

Roger's a doosh?

That's news to me.

But for the record, I respect the hell out of both men for their accomplishments on and off the field.

David Robinson is the reason why the Spurs are the classiest franchise in all of professional sports.

It was good to see him win a full season NBA Title before he retired.

He was truly the last great legendary superstar of the 90s to retire. Well, Malone retired in 2004 but Robinson stands above, imo. Plus, I wasn't around for the Staubach days. Staubach being a Dallas Cowpuke hurts as well.

I would have to give it up to Roger, because he was my fave qb when I was a youngster.
