Prior to the 2008 season much of the reasoning behind why we went to the no-huddle was due to the diversity at the TE position.
We had the ability to show multiple formations with the same personnel packaging. All the while limiting the defenses ability to substitute.
We could go from the 2 TE to the Spread, by flexing Gresham, to a 5-wide look, by splitting out Murray. Utilizing a personnel package that could be equally successful on 4th-and-inches as it could be on 3rd-and-10.
I think the loss of Gresham had a much bigger effect on this team than just losing another valuable receiver.
