Never thought i would say this, but right now he's one of the few coaches on this team earning his paycheck

I've criticized him a lot before, but that is true.

to be fair...Nebraska's O is maybe even worse than us.

Does anyone know what the total yards were for each offense?

Is he really doing anything different than he always has done though? I think that is the problem with our current coaches. They all have a philosophy and scheme and they continue to run it and rarely make adjustments.

I see BV and KW "coaching" the same way. Here is the scheme guys, go out and run it. The difference this year is that the defensive players are fitting into the scheme and following it well. The offensive players are not fitting into the offensive scheme as well. Thus, BV looks all-world and KW looks like crap.

I don't really think that is "coaching". Coaching is adjusting your players into the right situations, not merely plugging your players into YOUR scheme. KW is trying to run the same offense he did last year with completely different players and it is NOT working.

Fire him damnit!!!

All kidding aside, the defense did a fine job again last night. Too bad it has had to be wasted on this year's offense.

Oh, no one get me wrong: I still don't think BV is the long-term answer at DC for this team.

Nebraska had like 180 yards and those are mainly two big runs. Other than that, they were stuffed

This is his 11th season. We've won a national title and 6 conference titles during that time. And he's not the long-term answer at DC?

We won that NC with Mike as the DC.

...and the number of inexcusable defensive meltdowns more than outpace those conference titles, not to mention the usual underperforming nature of a BV run defense.

I simply think this years defense is more the exception than the rule of a BV coached defense.

I agree.

But his performance this year is making me carsick. Miami was an outright pantsing of BV by a superior OC. texass, he was ready and called a helluva game. Last week vs. K-St. Grampa Snyder took his old pupil back to school. Then this week he steps up again.

I'm gonna start calling him yo-yo.

I'll chime in with agreement. I haven't been a fan of his defense since he took over. He has done a great job this year.

We will NEVER have a long term answer at DC. If we find a DC that we like that much, he will be doing his job too well. Then he will get a Head Coaching job, and we will be talking about this again.

A few single games are worth more than four complete seasons, cool. Please provide this list so I can debunk it as well.

not to mention the usual underperforming nature of a BV run defense.

Rushing defense - National ranking (Big 12 ranking):

2009 - 5 (2)
2008 - 20 (2)
2007 - 17 (3)
2006 - 16 (2)
2005 - 4 (2)
2004 - 6 (1)

Why do I care where the rushing defense ranks -- it's about winning and losing.

...and wow! While playing in the Big 12 our rushing defense ranks high -- imagine that!

Like somebody said on here, a couple of the Big 12 Championships aren't the same when we lose to saxet! Those were saxet's to lose! IMO

Why do I care where the rushing defense ranks -- it's about winning and losing.

2004
Texas #2 300 ypg - allowed 150
Kansas State #25 185 ypg - allowed 1
Oklahoma State #12 237 ypg - allowed 150
Texas A&M #44 167 ypg - allowed 129
Nebraska #34 176 ypg - allowed 98
USC #33 177 - allowed 198 (Defense was not to blame for this, turnovers)

2005
TCU #28 192 - allowed 58
Tulsa #40 166 - allowed 98
UCLA #45 161 - allowed 83
Texas #2 274 - allowed 203, 80 yards came on one play where we didn't execute
Texas A&M #10 235 - allowed 292
Oklahoma State #48 154 - allowed 14

2006
Oregon #14 182 - allowed 163
Texas #34 162 - allowed 124
Texas A&M #8 207 - allowed 204
Oklahoma State #7 208 - allowed 119
Nebraska #23 171 - allowed 84
Boise State #6 214 - allowed 110

2007
Tulsa #41 173 - allowed 44
Colorado #68 144 - allowed 161 (Offense ran 14 plays the second half, the D was gassed)
Texas #17 208 - allowed 61
Texas A&M #13 212 - allowed 128
Oklahoma State #8 243 - allowed 195
Missouri #38 176 - allowed 57 and 98
West Virginia #3 297 - allowed 343. Like Bob Stoops didn't take over gameplanning for this bowl game with a month off. Whole team sucked that night.

2008
TCU #12 220 - allowed 102
Baylor #21 196 - allowed 194
Texas #41 167 - allowed 161. Ryan Reynolds makes the stop on the 60-yard game changing run.
Nebraska #37 170 - allowed 204. 75-100 came in the 4Q of a 50 point blowout.
Oklahoma State #8 245 - allowed 198
Missouri #52 154 - allowed 46
Florida #10 231 - allowed 249. We got beat by the best team in the nation, I don't see shame in that. I would have liked to have had more stops on third down but damn if Tebow didn't carry his team to victory.

2009
BYU #48 165 - allowed 28
Tulsa #52 160 - allowed 116
Miami #175 137 - allowed 140
Texas #60 146 - allowed 142
Kansas State #23 191 - allowed 149
Nebraska #61 146 - allowed 141

You don't know what you're talking about. None of you BV haters do. He's a top-10 DC in the nation and if that's not good enough for you than it shows how spoiled and dumb our fanbase has become.

Actually they were co-D coord, Mike had plenty of Def breakdowns in his tenure, remember Missouri when Brad smith ran for 900 yds against us, remember, A&M, Remember Osu at stillwater when Rashaun woods had 900 yds receiving against us, etc...

The one valid complaint that you have Curly that I will actually agree with you on is that more often than not BV's breakdowns have been in bowl games when he has had a month to prepare his D which makes it look alot worse

Ive been asking Curly to show me 5 D coord's he would rather have for the last 2 years now, he still hasnt done it. The thing that most of these BV haters fail to realize is that offenses arent the same anymore, we dont have a bunch of 10-7 games anymore. BV 95% of the time has a really good D and they get the job done. Hell just look at 2007 and the end of 2008 to see how far below their averages we held a bunch of high powered teams.

I think the truth is somewhere in-between with both of our coordinators. BV isn't normally this good, and KW isn't normally this bad (or as good as last year).
