Charlie and his contract will be bought out. Here is an article last year, saying how much it would be. (last year). http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27931419

they still have games this season @ pitt, and @ Stanford

probably 2 losses

Notre Dame needs to ask Brian Kelley what it will take for him to coach there and give it to him. He wins everywhere, knows how to recruit the areas Notre Dame needs too, and is a Irish Catholic to boot. There isn't a better fit for them.

My nephew (poor deluded soul-OSU grad) thinks that Bob Stoops would leave OU because of all the criticism he's been getting this season. All I can say to that is -- WTF? If he's coach of Notre Dame, that would be a weekly-nay, daily-colonosopy (sp) by the media and every single Domehead out there. Notre Dame hasn't been decent in at least 15 years, and those alums WANT RESULTS RIGHT NOW!!!!! I propose Jim Zorn -- dealing with Domehead fanatics has got to be easier than dealing mighty midget Daniel Snyder. And I bet Zorn would do better at the college level anyway.

westcoast_sooner
11/16/2009, 10:33 PM
If Stoops were tired of criticism of his teams as a head coach, going to ND wouldn't be the way to stop that, and I suspect Bob knows that.

Gruden is supposedly about to sign an extension with ESPN for MNF. I think Urban Meyer might be a realistic choice. He's got little to prove, but he'll be losing Tebow after this season, so why not make the jump?

Jon Gruden just signed a big contract with NBC.
Brian Kelly would be the ideal candidate and would make a huge move upwards.

For Les Miles... he should have taken the Michigan job when he had the chance... but something tells me that LSU made a huge stink about it, especially after the whole Saban incident.

And Urban... he's got his empire in Florida. Unless it starts to crumble with all of the neg press in the last few weeks. Better for him to keep quiet and continue to play on.

Chris Petersen seems happy as a clam in Idaho... hate watching games on that turf though... hurts my eyes.

I hear Switzer is taking the job to secretly sabotage them. He will recruit a bunch of nobodies, coach them to lose every game, then collect a hefty multimillion dollar buyout. Then he returns to Norman, gets a tickertape parade, and builds a sportsbar on campus corner and donates the rest to OUr athletic department.

From an unnamed source....some criticism is justified??????

..."
I know that Oklahoma has had offensive issues. I know that quarterback Landry Jones is in his first season and needs every snap he can get. And 9:46 remained in the game when he threw his fifth touchdown pass, a 10-yarder, against Texas A&M. Still, the Sooners’ starting quarterback threw a touchdown pass with the score 58-10. There has got to be someone on the scout team who could have used the work, too."

soonerborn30
11/17/2009, 09:48 AM
I hope they get Urban Meyer. Then Florida can go back to wallowing in mediocrity where they belong, and Notre Dame can suffer from massive disappointment when Urban can't replicate his earlier success due to tougher academic standards. Everybody wins!

StoopTroup
11/17/2009, 11:42 AM
Smart people realize that unless being Coach at Notre Dame is a lifelong dream...a guy like Bob Stoops is never going to give up a position where he knows that every year he's Coach at Oklahoma, he can recruit from the Mid-west for the top players in the Nation, he has to beat +exas every October and win the Big XII Championship Game. Those three things are instrumental in getting his Team into the BCS Championship Game.

Give me one good reason you would leave a situation like that? Even mack knows the score on it.

There is absolutely no way either one of them would leave.

http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/6806/stoops-calls-notre-dame-rumors-ridiculous

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops refuted a story in a Chicago newspaper that said he was a leading candidate to take over the non-vacant head coaching job at Notre Dame.

When asked by Oklahoma reporters about a published report in the Chicago Sun-Times that Stoops "had told confidants" he was interested in a potential Notre Dame coaching job, Stoops bristled at the story.

"That's ridiculous," Stoops told the Tulsa World Monday night following the Sooners' practice.
Stoops also was curious about what kind of friend would tell that story to a newspaper.

"Some confidant, huh?" Stoops said. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Notre Dame doesn't have a job [open]. And I haven't spoken to any confidants about anything, outside of trying to beat Texas Tech."
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis' job status is considered tenuous. And it could make sense that Stoops might be interested in considering a move since he's struggling through his worst season as a head coach and has received sustained criticism this season. The Sooners aren't ranked and have already recorded four losses, which is the most ever for a Stoops team at this point of the season.

Stoops received a raise and a contract extension last summer that will pay him $30.125 million through the 2015 season.

But he still denied any interest in Notre Dame.

"You guys believe a 'confidant?' What's that? That's a pretty good buddy, wasn't it?" he said. "Maybe he felt things were going [bad enough at OU] that I needed that, huh? Buddy of mine trying to help me out, huh?

"People just make stuff up."

Urban Meyer, Tim Tebow is finished this year, if he wins out he'll have three MNCs in 5 years. No where to go but downhill at UF. ND's academic standards are indeed a challenge to deal with but when you play a cupcake schedule and have a near-guaranteed lock on a BCS game. It's a pretty decent gig.

Just looked it up. Since 1997, Notre Dame has played in the 2001 Fiesta, the 2006 Fiesta, and the 2007 Sugar.

That's 13 seasons with only three BCS appearances.
