I'd love to play them. But a 10-win season with that record is pretty much a gimme, even for ND. And they've been squeaking by with most of their wins.

They will lose at Pitt.

If Notre Dame qualifies for a BCS bowl (and I think they only need to reach 9 wins to do so), then they absolutely will be selected with an at-large bid. They are still considered the best guarantee of asses in seats and eyes on tv screens. And, since I think it's unlikely we reach a BCS bowl without some serious attrition at the top, I doubt that this match up will happen this year.

Notre Dame also has tie-ins with the Gator and Sun Bowls, which also pick from lower tier Big 12 teams. I doubt either ND or OU will end up low enough in the standings this year to go to those games.

In future years, I tend to think a BCS bowl is easily the most likely way for us to meet in the post season.

Oops. I think this has been changed since the early days of the BCS. It now appears that they get an automatic BCS bid when they finish in the top 8 of the BCS standings. They are currently 22nd. I'm unclear about whether they can still get an at-large bid if they are outside the top 8. This seems like a really terrible deal for Notre Dame if not.

Saw this on a Rutgers website, talking about possible bowl matchups. I've seen this scenario mentioned in other places, so who knows? I'd like it, we owe them some payback, and with the game in Dallas, there'd be tons of Sooners.

"The Capital One Bowl gets SEC #2, which means SEC #3 with the SEC surely to get two BCS entries (Florida and Alabama at this point). That would mean that the Cotton Bowl would be looking at getting SEC #4 which currently could be Georgia (assuming LSU goes to the Capital One Bowl who has the choice before the Cotton Bowl). Under this scenario the Cotton Bowl would have the decision of selecting Georgia (a well traveling SEC school that has not been to the Cotton Bowl since 1984) or using its right to select Notre Dame once in four years. If Notre Dame is 9-3 or better (and not in BCS) they are attractive here. Obviously, so is Georgia, but I believe Jerry Jones looking to make a splash in the Cotton Bowl’s first contest at the new Texas Stadium, will take the Fighting Irish with the goal of getting as many eye balls on the tube as possible and smashing Cotton Bowl attendance records. Pittsburgh will beat Notre Dame on November 14, but the Irish will win their other games vs. Washington State, Navy, UCONN, and Stanford to finish 9-3. If the Irish are 8-4 then the SEC is back in play. At this time I am predicting a 9-3 Irish.

For the Big 12 entry, Oklahoma is 3-3, but 2-1 in conference and plays Oklahoma State who is 2-1 in conference as well, at home for the last game of the season. The Sooners will take that game and make for a brand name matchup against the Irish."

Interesting. Didn't know the Cotton Bowl had an option on Notre Dame. Significantly more likely, in this case.

ND will lose @ Pitt and @ Stanford

That will give the 8 wins = No BCS!

I'd be happy to play UGA or ND... But I dont think UGA is going to make it to the Cotton this year.
