I now have a foot-long paint scuff on the side of my car. Which I am about to get rid of. What is the best way of dealing with this. Fixing it myself, or taking the hit on resale and letting someone else deal with it. This is a high mileage car that is paid for.

How deep is the scuff?

You can always try a light polish. 2000 grit sandpaper is also a tool of the trade, but if the scratch is too deep, you'll f it up.

It doesn't look too deep.

Well, from here it looks like it'll buff out!

if the scratch goes so far into the color that you can see metal, wave off. If there's still color under the scratch, go for the ever-so-light buff. You can always buff again, but it's really hard to unbuff an area.

Try to scratch the other side in a matching pattern. Tell the prospective buyer it is teh kewl nowadays.

If it's not too late, try some automotive cleaner wax.

^^^ Just wait for the next good rain to take care of it, really.

Rub some dirt on it.

Put a pinstripe over it and one on the other side so it matches.

Try Meguiar's Scratch-X. If it's too deep for that to work, punt.

Maybe some touch up paint after the putty.
