View Full Version : Halloween Fail

So the city of Norman decides at the last minute (yesterday, apparently) to move trick-or-treat to tonight. Trouble is, other than a story in this morning's Transcribble (which nobody reads), they forgot to tell anyone. Nothing on the TV. No signage.

The Library, a bunch of churches, and other places had parties planned tonight with flyers out weeks in advance. They picked tonight so as not to interfere with T&T.

Half my neighborhood's outside lights are dark. My wife wasn't feeling well or we'd have been gone too. We've had maybe 20 kids come by. Normally we get close to 100.

FAIL.

I read about it 2 weeks ago when they announced the KSU 6 PM kick. I do not live in Norman or OKC. I thought it was common knowledge.

Man, **** cities trying to change Halloween to a non-Halloween night. What, are you going to celebrate Easter on Good Friday because you've got something going on on Sunday? **** that noise. Trick or treat on the right damn night or stay home.

Just another sign that some folks continue to try and change everything. Whether it's for the almighty dollar or to just try and throw a big steamy pile of poo on it...they continue to try and try. Every year someone across America gets what they think is a really good idea. Every year...there is fail. This is one of those fails. The names have been changed to protect the innocent...

The city of Norman probably has the worst city planners and management of any town I've lived in...they basically wait til the problem jumps up and bites them in the *** before they do anything about it, they are NEVER proactive about anything. They actually believe that a roundabout at Porter and Alameda will help traffic (REALLY!?!?!?). They have yet to do anything about the McGee Street river whenever we get a moderate amount of rain...

So this ToT fiasco doesn't surprise me in the least...

I know of this gal up in Tulsa who is headed your direction soon. Maybe she could help. You all should call her. Evidently a lot of folks think she was amazing enough to work with the Governor again.

Coupla a years ago one of the Casinos here had a Cinco de Mayo party/promotion on May 6. Go figure.

The reason they moved the date for the kids is so they would not get run over by cars driving in for the game. Seems like a smart decision to me.

Won't everybody be at the game during the festivities?

More fail.

It's the job of the PARENTS to go trick or treating with their kids and, I don't know, smack them with something if they try to go running out into the street without checking for cars first.

This is fail at it's best.

Norman, although not perfect, is being proactive in lots of areas, including homelessness and recycling. They also are doing several street projects to improve things, namely Robinson, east main, and porter. I fail to see where they aren't.

Let's see, since Alameda and Porter is a strange angle, that roundabout may not be a big deal. Of course Norman does have some of the most idiotic drivers so what's a planning center to do?

And, the McGee lake is nowhere near what it used to be. The new drainage they installed helped the problem immensely. It's not like the current regime built Norman back in the day.

Finally, they announced the trick or treat thing two weeks ago (like as soon as they knew the game time) in the Transcript, Oklahoman, OU Daily...all over the place. Judging by the amount of kids out last night, it was common knowledge. It would have cut off a large segment of the town to have it tonight (all around campus) for traffic. They did what they had to do, seems like a good decision.

Whine, whine, whine.
