I probably would not spend more than $200 for anything online, but if I had more money I might risk more of it. I see online says as quick risky.

The good thing with buying something like a boat/car/motorcycle is that you go pick it up. You know that you are getting something and should pay once you get the item.

I did--good experience. I got a pretty good deal on a 31' Hunter Sailboat about 5 years ago. Won the auction, went and checked it out, and then when it all checked out, had it shipped from NC to Bermuda. The shipping and duty was almost as much as the boat.

Screw Ebay. About all I use them for is a sort of Kelly's Blue Book.

They are way to big for their shoes and don't help resolve conflicts fairly.

There are way to many Dooshes and Cons out there for them to have no hand in helping Sellers and Buyers IMO.

I'll never use them again unless I have little choice.

So, after your won the bid you could still back out?

Yep. Contact the seller prior to the auction ending. For most of the ones I've seen you get to back out if there is something wrong that wasn't listed. If you just "change your mind," well you will probably get some negative feedback.

If the boat fits what you want, and you are ready to buy, I'd say why not. At the end of the day, if you are dealing with someone fair on the other end, then it will likely be a good experience. Just don't send any cash other than a small deposit until you've seen the boat.

A used car dealer I know has bought vehicles he found on ebay.

Personally, I always wanted to buy one of the WWII-vintage military vehicles (tanks, halftracks, amphibious types) that are sometimes offered . . .

I bought a fishing boat on eBay, then drove up to Omaha to fetch it. Perfect transaction and a really good deal.
