If Sam is going to go to the NFL. How far can he go and still be able to change his mine?

Where in the process is the point of no return reached?

I would think once he gets an agent hes done with OU.

Exactly, once he even talks to an agent he is done. But he can go through the process without one. I don't know if that hinders his chances with negotiations.

The agent rule is an NBA thing (I believe). In the NFL, you have the mid-January deadline, then maybe 2 weeks to rescind. I know not much longer than that, because you definitely can't go to the combine and return.

Players have to declare their intentions with the NFL to enter the draft in January. Once they do so, they have 72 hours to rescind, in writing.

The combine is later (late Feb/early Mar), so by then they have already made up their mind, declared their intention, and are past the deadline to turn back.

Contact with an agent is bad ( I believe that's potentially part of the Dez Bryant issue). Reaching any kind of an agreement with an agent means you're done. Accepting any kind of gift or favor from an agent probably means you're done.

At least, that's my understanding....

He is 1000% gone. Even if his rehab isn't where it should be why would he come back. If he would be ready to play for OU even with a slow rehab, then why couldn't he be ready to play for the NFL? Unless, and only unless, his slowed rehab has dropped him out of the 1st round, then he would come back to play to increase his stock. If he is still a little weak and able to remain in the first round then he will have a fat wallet and time in the NFL to learn his system and to rehab over a longer period.

I was referring to the fact that the NFL does not allow you the grace period of going thru "the process" as long as you don't hire an agent. As the NBA does.

Once you declare, you only have a couple days to rescind, even if you don't hire an agent.
